ABERNATHY, Captain Samuel

September 26, 1839  Died, at his residence near Sprigfield, Captain Samuel Abernathy, in about the 91st year of his age. The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania and a soldier of the Revolution. In company with his brother the late Mr William Abernathy, he came to that place then a wilderness, soon after the close of the Revolution war where he has resided ever since. He sustained all the relations of social life beloved and respected - served his country and his generation faithfully - lived to see a flourishing village spring up, and a new generation of men to arise, and left a numerous family of his descendants to mourn him.
Time rolls his ceaseless course, the race of yore
Who danc'd our infancy upon their knee
And told our wondering boyhood legends store
Of dangers happen'd by land or sea."
How they are blotted from the things that be.

ADAMS, Frederick

The death of a young man is always an occasion of genuine sorrow, but the demise of Mr. Frederick Adams on Tuesday last and his funeral yesterday were attended with more than the usual evidence of profound grief. Mr. Adams was born at Hoffman Mine and was the son of the late Frederick Adams, for many years an employe of the Consolidation Coal Co., of that place. His mother was Miss Mary Brode before her marriage, daughter of the late Phillip Brode who was for half a century a prominent citizen of Eckhart and Hoffman. Freddie Adams was a model young man, and the immense crowd that attended the funeral yesterday gave evidence of the profound sorrow his death has caused and the high esteem in which he was held by the community. The sorrow repeated by his untimely death is intensified by the circumstance that he had recently erected a beautiful home in the suburb of Frostburg and was to have been married in June. The funeral took place yesterday at 2 o'clock with religious services at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Rev. Father Cuddy (?) officiating. The local branch of the Young Men's Institute attended the funeral in a body, and the floral tributes were magnificent.
