ARNONE, Arnold M.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Arnold M. Arnone, 67, of Charleston, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, in a Charleston hospital.  Born Sept. 21, 1929, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Michael Arnone and Lucy (Fabbri) Arnone.  Mr. Arnone was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Charleston. He graduated from high school and attended Catherman's Business School, Cumberland. He was a former manager with several Charleston area businesses: Tri-State Discount Center, Harris Drugs, and Edward's and Taylor's Frozen Foods. He was a substitute teacher with Charleston County Schools; past president of the North Charleston Civitan Club; and vice-president of the Lenevar Civic Club.  Surviving are his wife, Mary Virginia (Clark) Arnone, Charleston; one son, Alan Arnone, Charleston; one daughter, Ann Moore, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, James Arnone, Frostburg, and Samuel Arnone, Joppa; three sisters, Rose McKenzie, Frostburg, Joan Brewer, Hagerstown, and Linda Arnone, Charleston; and three grandchildren.  Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. only.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

ARNONE, James Joseph
 
FROSTBURG — James Joseph Arnone, 86, of Frostburg, died May 15, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 4, 1924 in Eckhart Mines, he was the son of the late Michael and Lucy (Fabbri) Arnone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; one daughter, Christine; one grandson, Michael McKenzie; one sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Donald McKenzie; and a brother, Arnold Arnone. Mr. Arnone was a retired letter carrier of Frostburg. He also worked at the Au Petit, Celanese Corp., Kelly Springfield, ABL, and for 12 years at the Durst Funeral Home. James was a devout member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in which he sang with the choir and served on the parish council. Mr. Arnone served his country as an Army veteran of World War II with the 278th Field Artillery Division and a member of the American Legion Farrady Post 24. James was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by four sons, William and wife Sharon, Cresaptown, James and wife Carol, Ridgley, W.Va., Robert and wife Mary, Brownsboro, Ala., Regis and girlfriend Marcela, Vienna, Va.; three daughters, Rosemary McKenzie and husband Bill, Manchester, Philomena Zapf and husband Bill, Cumberland and Kathleen Arnone, Owens Crossroads, Ala.; a brother, Sam and wife Delores; two sisters, Joan Brewer and Linda Arnone; sister-in-law, Virginia Arnone. Also surviving are the grandchildren and their families, Katrina and Sean Opel, Dylan and Chase; Lynn Hovatter. Seth and Rylee; James and Barbara Arnone and Katelyn; Tricia Arnone; Rebecca and Andy Clark, Sydney and Ryan; Kevin McKenzie; Marc Arnone; Leah and Ryan Burch, Gianna and Jackson; Steve and Michelle Logsdon, Katelyn and Joelle; Matt and Shala Logsdon; Stefanie and Kenny Liller and Madison; and Justin Horn; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mr. Arnone wanted to thank all his mail patrons who treated him so well. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Greg Chervenak O.F.M. Cap. as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery following the services. ARNONE, Louis Joseph
 
CUMBERLAND- Louis Joseph Arnone, Sr., 83, of Cumberland, passed away on March 8, 2014 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born on July 26, 1930 in Cumberland he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Waneta (Sharretts) Arnone. He was also preceded in death by his brother Robert Arnone. Louis was a United States Veteran and served in the Navy. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School in 1949 and attended Frostburg State College. Louis and his father were owners and operators of Arnones Corner Dairy in the late 60s and early 70s. He also was employed by Chessie Systems as a freight conductor. Louis loved golfing and horseracing. He formerly resided in Lady Lake Florida for twenty years before returning to Cumberland. Surviving are his wife of 58 years Mary Lou Arnone; his daughter Michele Crabtree and husband Jesse of South Carolina; three sons Louis Arnone Jr., Alan Arnone and Krista Cross all of Cumberland and Michael “Nort” Arnone of Florida; grandchildren Brandi Nies of Oldtown Alexandria, Virginia, Alyssa Smith and husband Zachary of North Carolina, Marissa Arnone and Adam Morley both of Cumberland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. As per Louis' request, he will be cremated. Family and friends will gather at the American Legion Post 13 on Union Street, Cumberland on Monday at 6:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Chapel at the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Honor Guard Chaplain Bob Lloyd officiating. Inurnment will be in the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Military Honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veteran's Honor Guard. FROSTBURG—Mrs. Lillian D. Arnott, 67, of 92 Hill Street, died Monday at Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, after a brief illness. Born in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Rachel (Hamilton) Dando. Her first husband, Benjamin Hamilton, died in 1965. A school teacher in Allegany county for 41 years, she retired five years ago from Eckhart Elementary School. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Retired Teachers Association and National Education Association. Surviving are her husband, David Arnott; a daughter, Mrs. Constance Beachy, Sacramento, Cal.; a sister, Mrs. Mildred VanHorn, here, and two grandchildren. The body will be at the Durst Funeral Home, where friends will be received tomorrow from 7until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Donald F. Sause officiating. Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park.

ARONHALT, Mrs. Isabelle

At her home near Wilson, W. Va., on July 2nd, 1906, Mrs. Isabelle Aronhalt, widow of the late John Aronhalt, aged 78 years, 9 months and 4 days. She was the mother of three children, namely, James Aronhalt, of near Wilson, W. VA., who is well and favorably known through out the county, Mrs. John Martin, of Red House, Md., and Mrs. George Simmons of near Wilson, W. VA. She was kind, neighborly and obliging. Afbout 45 years ago she joined the Brethren church, in which she live faithful until death. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. I. W. Abernathy on July 4th in the leafy grove near her residence, after which she was laid to rest in the home cemetery beside her husband. ~A Friend

Hartmansville, W. Va. Dec. 9 - Jackson Aronhalt, 78, of near Hartmansville, in Grant county, died last Friday afternoon in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md., where he had been a patient since November 22. A native of Grant county, he was a son of the late Andrew and Eliza (Evans) Aronhalt and a life resident of the county.  He engaged in farming.  His wife, Mrs. Nellie Victoria (Biggs) Aronhalt, died ten years ago.  He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Kitzmiller of Blairsville, Pa.; Mrs. Susanna Durst, of Emoryville; Mrs. Mabel Kinkead, of Kitzmiller; Mrs. Sarah Trenton of Keyser, and Miss Lillian Aronhalt at home; six sons, Vincent, of Lucas, Ohio; Robert and Oliver, of Gormania; Harry, of Elk Garden; Vernon, of Emoryville, and Edgar, at home; two brothers, Abraham, of Elk Garden, and Elza, of Deer Park; a sister, Mrs. Tabitha Boscley (Boscky??) of Keyser. Funeral services were held this afternoon with burial in the family cemetery near Hartmansville.

Keyser, W. Va., Dec. I9.—Mrs. Mary I. (King) Aronhalt,. 72, wife of J. E. Aronhalt, died early this morning at her home, 22 Spring street, after an illness of several months.  A native of Gormania, she was the daughter of the late James and Emily King, and had resided in Keyser 25 years. She was a member of Mt. Olive Rebekahs and of First Methodist church here.  Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Carl Mclntyre of Cumberland, and Earl, of Akron, Keyser (??); two sons, Charles Aronhalt of Cumberland and Earl, of Akron, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Ours, of Keyser; Mrs. George Kepllnger, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Charles Liller, of Beaver Palls, Pa. Eleven grandchildren also survive. Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p. m. from First Methodist church with the Rev. O. H. Dorsey, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Queen's Point cemetery.

ARONHALT, Mrs. Priscilla

Died December 8, 1891 at Laurel Dale, this county, Mrs. Priscilla Aronhalt, aged 78 years and 16 days. The subject of this notice enjoyed her usual health until the evening of her death. Retiring as usual she awoke about eleven o'clock and complained of feeling very sick and died in a few minutes afterwards. Her husband died about three years ago. She leaves two children.
Messrs W.W. and Ezra Bosley of this place attended the funeral of their aunt Mrs. Priscilla Aronhalt of Laurel Dale, last Thursday.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Thomas E. Aronhalt, 56, of Route 4, Box 169, Keyser, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at his residence. Born on Feb. 15, 1952, at Uniontown, Pa., he was a son of the late Henry T. and Shirley T. (Via) Aronhalt. Mr. Aronhalt was retired as a truck driver with D & L Coal Company, Bloomington, Md., with 17 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Frances L. (Rogers) Aronhalt; two sons, Tommy Aronhalt and fiancée, Amber of Martinsburg, and Joshua Aronhalt and wife Krystle of Antioch; two stepchildren, Rob Parrish of Keyser, and Candy Biser and husband Rick of Keyser; two brothers, Gary Aronhalt and wife Betty of Westernport, Md., and Benny Aronhalt and wife Kimberly of New Creek; two sisters, Kathy Hoopengarner and husband Paul of Keymont, and Sandra Riggleman and husband Donald of Hartmansville; and two grandchildren, Dustin Biser and Brytan Parrish. ARTHUR, Mrs. Naomi Ruth Gordon

Piedmont, WV - Naomi Ruth Arthur, 94, formerly of 99 Ashfield St., Piedmont, and most recently of Moran Manor Nursing Center, Westernport, MD, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the nursing center. Born June 14, 1918, in Beryl, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Anna Laura (Clark) Gordon. She was also preceded in death by four grandchildren, Stacey Arthur, Tammy and Pammy Metz, Hollie David Arthur, a brother, John Joseph Gordon Jr., and her children's father, Hollie Dale Arthur. Naomi formerly worked as a nursing assistant for Dr. Lewis Engle in Piedmont. She was a member of Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Ministry, and a member of the Bloomington Homemakers. She leaves behind her children, John Dale Arthur and wife Sylvia of Gainesville, FL, Reba Jean Metz Deremer and husband Joe of Barton, MD, Hollie Samuel Arthur and wife Jackie of Burlington; her grandchildren, Peggy Sue Arthur Healy of Keyser, Candis Ann Metz Rogers of Keyser, Raymond Rockland Metz of Piedmont, Laurie Ann Arthur Paugh of Romney, John Joseph Arthur of South Carolina, Corrina Arthur of Keyser; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandy Healy, Shawn David Healy, Terry Healy, Holly Healy, Jeremy Rockland Metz, Alexander Matthew Metz, Shanna Dawn Powell, Jesse Travis Powell, Joel Sutherland, John Joseph Arthur Jr., Nae Robert Paugh, Renae Nicole Paugh, Jason Lee Tasker, and Haley Nicole Tasker. ARTHUR, Miss Radie

WESTERNPORT, Md. - Radie Arthur, 96, formerly of 21014 Lower George's Creek Road, Westernport, Md., and most recently of the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md., passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the nursing home. Born July 31, 1908, in Clay, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel Russell and Nancy Jane (Shaffer) Arthur. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Coop, Inez Clark, and Freda Steininger, and one brother, Hollie Arthur. Miss Arthur was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corp. She leaves behind a brother, Carl Arthur of Westernport; three sisters, Juanita Wilson of Westernport, Claretta Dye of Westernport, and Reba McDowell of Gallatin, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. George McDowell officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

FRIENDSVILLE - Mrs. Daisy A. Artice, 78, died Friday night in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Malissa (Stafford) Selby. She was a member of the Friendsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Artice is survived by her husband, Ellis Artice, two sons, Charles R. Artice and George E. Artice, both of Friendsville; a daughter, Mrs. Elma Friend, Friendsville, 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Friendsville Pentecostal Church. Rev. H. E. Rittenshouse and Rev. Paul Fike will officiate. Interment will be in the Steele Cemtery. The body is at the residence.

ARTICE, Daniel Milton
 
Daniel Milton Artice, 83, Meyersdale, died Oct. 24, 2007, in Golden Living Center. He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Selbysport, Md., a son of the late Daniel Roy and Elizabeth Irene (Harris) Artice. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jane (Wable) Artice; and these children, Bert E. and his friend, Jan Samler, Daniel R. and his wife, Chrystal, both of Meyersdale; and Camala, wife of Jeff Lowery, Fort Hill; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was brother of Irene Gauntz, Meyersdale; and Eleanore Parnelle, Uniontown. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a retired plastic cutter for Penn Tables, Meyersdale. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded The Purple Heart. Member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren, VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed reading, gardening, tinkering and spending time with his family. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Salisbury Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating. The family suggests contributions be made to the Somerset Hospice.

FRIENDSVILLE - James E. Artice, 86, died yesterday at Oak Rest Nursing Home, Oakland. A native of Bedford County, Pa., he was a son of the late James and Minnie (Reckner) Artice. He is survived by five sons, Howard, Clark, Glenn and Wade Artice, all of here, and Lloyd Artice, Scottdale, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Maude Fike, Mrs. Grace Hook, Mrs. Wilma Sanders, all of here, Mrs. Blanche Coddington, Uniontown, Pa., three brothers, Ellis Artice, here; Harvey and Milton Artice, Markleysburg, Pa.; a step-son, Charles Dewire, Chaleroi, Pa.; 26 grand-children. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home here, where a service will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. George Lovelace will officiate and interment will be in the Steele Cemetery.

Friendsville, Md., Jan. 7 - Mrs. Minnie Reckner Artice, 56, died Friday morning after a long illness. A daughter of the late Chat Reckner, Connellsville, Pa., she had spent the past 20 years in this community. Surviving are her husband, James Artice, and several children and grandchildren. The Rev. Mart Smith, Markleysburg, Pa., conducted the funeral service at the Savage funeral home Sunday afternoon. Interment was in the Friendsville cemetery.

The result of two boys playing a game in imitation of a Wild West Show, finds one boy dead, shot dead instantly by his playmate, and two families plunged into grief, the tragic affair having occurred Saturday evening, when Alpheus Arvin, son of Lloyd Arvin, a mechanic employed by the Western Maryland railroad company, aged nine years, was shot through the right temple and instantly killed by Frederick Rinker, aged seven years, son of Richard Rinker, a car painter employed by B&O shops of South Cumberland.
