UDINE, Mrs. Sarah Serpone née Lacobacci

"LUKE- Mrs. Sarah Sudine, 69, of 117 Pratt Street, died this morning at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser. Born in Toro, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Guiseppe and Rosa (Berardi) Lacobacci. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Serpone. Mrs. Sudine was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Westernport. Surviving are her husband, James Sudine; two sons, Frank Serpone, Piedmont, and Joseph Serpone, Westernport; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Maddix, Brandywine; Mrs. Kathy Fazenbaker, Keyser; Mrs. Rosie Fracaffo, Piedmont; Mrs. Jeannie Devine, Laurel, and Mrs. Lucy Elliott, New Eagle, Pa.; one brother, Mark Lacobacci, Philadelphia, and two sisters in Italy. Also surviving are two steps-ons, Joseph Sudine, Westernport, James Sudine, Baltimore; and four step-daughters, Mrs. Mary DiNicalo, Los Angeles; Mrs. Daisy Serpone, Piedmont; Mrs. Bernie Sudine, Laurel, and Miss Josephine Sudine, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and 12 grandchildren. The body is at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, where friends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. today and 2 to 4 and to 9 p. m. tomorrow. Rosary will be recited there at 7:30 p. m. Friday and a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a. m. Saturday at St. Peters.

UDY, Frederick

Mr. Frederick Udy, one of the most well known and respected citizens of South Cumberland, died this morning at six o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Speir, on Virginia Avenue. Mr. Udy was an Englishman by birth and came to this country in the year 1846 at the age of twenty-eight, and settled in Pennsylvania, afterwards moving to Piedmont, W.Va., and then to Lonaconing, where he was engaged in mining. He was in Lonaconing until four years ago, when he moved to South Cumberland to live with his daughter, living a retired life. He would have been 74 years of age on his next birthday which would have been on the third of next month. He is survived by the following children, four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Rosenberg of Davis, W. Va.; Mrs. Mary Reeves, of Weaver, W. Va.; Mrs. Speir, of South Cumberland; Mrs. William Rodda, Frost burg; Mr. Thomas Udy, Lonaconing; Fred and John Udy, Lonaconing. He was a member of Grace M. E. Church in South Cumberland, and had been for the past four years, altogether being a member of the Methodist church for over forty years. His remains will be sent to Lonaconing tomorrow evening to the home of his son Thomas Udy and will be buried Monday.

UDY, John A.

John A. Udy, 67, formerly of Lonaconing, died last Tuesday at Bluefield, W. Va., where he was engaged in the insurance business. He had been in failing health for three years. Mr. Udy lived in Bluefield for 22 years and took a prominent part in affairs there. He held various offices in the Loyal Order of Moose and the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since he was 18 years of age. Mr. Udy was a native of Middle Creek, Pa. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Isaac Udy, New York: Mrs. R. K. Hampton, Wytheville, Va.; Mrs. L. V. Linkous, Dublin, Va.; Mrs. John H. Powell and Mrs. Lee Wright, and Mrs. W. A. Counts, all of Bluefield. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Crossen and Mrs. Mary Reeves, both of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. William Rodda, Frostburg; Dr. Thomas W. Udy, Cumberland, and Fred W. Udy, manager of the Flat Top Grocery Company, Bluefield. Burial was at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield, Wednesday afternoon.

UHL, Mrs. Alberta Angela Bittner

LAVALE - Alberta Angela Uhl, 83, of LaVale, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at her home. Born June 7, 1924, in Somerset, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Garfield William Bittner and Lucy (Blank) Bittner. Mrs. Uhl was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Lightning" Uhl; and a grandson, G. Michael Uhl. Founder and retired from Queen City Motors and also retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America, Mrs. Uhl was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick. She was a dedicated and loving homemaker, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Uhl is survived by her daughter, Diane Uhl, LaVale; her son, M. Gregory Uhl and wife, Linda, LaVale; her sister, Cleta Sturtz, Frostburg; her grandsons, Jeffrey S. Uhl and wife Crystal, Cumberland and Timothy A. Uhl and wife Melanie, LaVale; as well as her great-grandchildren, Breana, Alisa, Caitlyn and Kylie Uhl. Friends will be r eceived at the Adams Family Funeral Home, PA, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Patrick on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at 9 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas Bevan as celebrant. Frederick E. Ulery, 62, Covert Rd., RD 2, died in Jameson Memorial Hospital at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, culminating a long illness. Born in Ligonier, Pa., he was a son of Fred E. and Eugenie St. Clair Ulery. He had resided here for 13 years and was formerly employed by the United Engineering and Foundry Co., this city. Mr. Ulery was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg; the Elks of Apollo, Pa.; Lodge of the Craft No. 433, F & AM; Valley of New Castle Consistory; AASR Syria Shrine, Pittsburgh. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Susan Byrd Ulery; four children, Mrs. Paul Smith, RD 2; Mrs. Clarence Randolph, Monroeville, Pa.; Mrs. William Sloan and Fred E. ULLERY, Tilden Jacob

Tilden Jacob Ullery, 80, of 1207 Lexington Avenue, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He was born in Levels, W.Va., a son of the late Tilden J. and Ellen (Cox) Ullery. Mr. Ullery was a retired laborer of the Baltimore & Ohio Reilroad. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lula (Dorsey) Ullery; four sons, Alfred, Ralph and David Ullery, all of this city, and Lester Ullery, Aliquippa, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. Grace Snyder, also of here; Mrs. Dorothy Sencindiver, Shellsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Eleanor Schurg, Hagerstown, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. FRIENDSVILLE - Floyd Umbel, 53, formerly of Friendsville, died Saturday at his home at East Palestine, Ohio. Born in Preston Co., W. Va., he was a son of Mrs. Ruth (Friend) Umbel, Friendsville, and the late Perry F. Umbel. Also surviving are two sons, Floyd Umbel, Washington, and R. Edward Umbel, Hyattsville; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred McKibben, Camp Hill, Pa., and Mrs. Lorraine Baker, Pittsburgh; three brothers, Wade Umbel, Uniontown, Pa.; Dale Umbel, Swickley, Pa., and Forrest Umbel, Pi ttsburgh, and two grandchildren. FRIENDSVILLE - James M. Umbel, 66, of Friendsville, died Saturday in Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Hospital. A native of Friendsville, he was the son of the late James H. and Zaloma (Friend) Umbel. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Confluence, and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, Elsie (Tressler) Umbel, Confluence, one son, James Umbel Jr., Miami, Fla.; one daugher, Mrs. Wanda Henrich, Bethlehem, Pa.; three brothers, Joseph Umbel, of here; Augustine Umbel, Terra Alta; Walter Umbel, Pittsburgh; three sisters, Mrs. Annetta Grove, of here; Mrs. Myrtle Sleasman, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Francis Bisbing, Gettysburg, and four grandchildren. UMBEL, Lloyd

Word was received here early Saturday morning of the death of Lloyd Umbel at his home near Markleysburg. Mr. Umble was born October 22, 1870. He is survived by his wife Ida and sons William of Markleysburg, and Robert of Uniontown and one daughter, Mrs. Orie Lowdermilk of Uniontown. Three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Frazee, Mrs. Bert Watson of Markleysburg, and Mrs. Annie B. Barnthouse of Uniontown, and one brother, Thurman Umbel of Markleysburg. Mr. Umbel was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren and was well and favorably known.

Mildred Ada Umbel, 92, Friendsville, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. Born March 18, 1919, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Pearl (Fearer) Teets. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Quincy G. Umbel, April 2, 1977; two grandchildren, Timothy Umbel and Donna Beachy; seven brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Umbel was a homemaker and a member of Asher Glade Church of the Brethren and the Ladies Aid. She is survived by seven sons, Gerald Umbel, Thompson, Ohio, Ronald Umbel, Ruthers Glen, Va., Stanley Umbel, Garrettsville, Ohio, William Umbel, Accident, and Quincy Jr., Rick, and Ervin Umbel, all of Friendsville; seven daughters, Emogene Barefoot, Addison, Pa., Judy Sweitzer, Oakland, Peggy Savage, Thompson, Nancy Wayne, Markleysburg, Pa., Carol Fisher, Streetsboro, Ohio, Kathy McGhee, Tappahannock, Va., and Debbie Rosenberger, Fredericktown, Pa.; one brother, Warren Teets, Lakeland, Fla.; 41 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. FRIENDSVILLE - Perry Floyd Umbel, 73, died Tuesday at the home of his brother, Charles Umbel, Connellsville, Pa. Born in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Amos and Jenny (Cunningham) Umbel. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Friend) Umbel; four sons, Wade Umbel, Uniontown, Pa.; Floyd Umbel, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dale Umbel, Selwickey, Pa., and Forrest Umbel, Pittsburgh; two daugthers, Mrs. Alfredda McKibben, Harrisburg, Pa., and Mrs. Lorraine Baker, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Charles, Connellsville, and Roy Umbel, here; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Friend and Mrs. Cora Evans, here; 1 1 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. UMBERGER, Ross

Ross Umberger, 62, of Huntington, W. Va., a former resident of Cumberland, died yesterday in a Fort Lauderdale, Fla. hospital. Among the survivors is his widow, Anna (Boettner) Umberger, a Cumberland native. The body will be returned to the Klingel-Carpenter Funeral Home, Huntington.

UMSTOT, Capt. Samuel G.

A service for Capt. Samuel G. Umstot Jr., 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel G. Umstot Sr., of RD 2, Keyser, who died September 12 in South Vietnam as a result of war wounds, will be conducted at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser. In addition to his parents, Capt. Umstot is survived by his widow, Joyce (Sion) Umstot; one daughter, Elizabeth, and one son, Gregory, all at home in Winchester, Va.; two half-brothers, Prof. Kenneth Malone and David Malone, Fort Ashby. Capt. Umstot entered the Army Medical Service Corps as a career officer on September 10, 1960. Prior to being assigned to Vietnam, he was stationed at the U. S. Army Medical Training Center, Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., where he served as executive officer of the center's 2nd Battalion. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal while at Ft. Sam Houston and volunteered for duty in Vietnam. During his Vietnam service he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnamese Service Medal. Prior to entering the military service, he was a chemistry instructor at Randolph-Macon Academy, Front Royal, Va. He was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School, Potomac State College, and Shepherd College. At Potomac State College, he was an officer in the Reserve Officers Trai ning Corps, and at Shepherd he was a member of Psi Sigma Epsilon national fraternity. The body is at the Rogers Funeral Home in Keyser. The service at Calvary United Methodist Church will be conducted by Rev. Clyde Beard, Wheeling, W.Va., and Rev. William Lyons, Winchester, Va. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Arlington National Cemetery.

UMSTOT, Child of Mr. & Mrs. Burke

(same as below "UMSTOTT, Hazel Irene") The 15 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burke Umstot, died Tuesday night and was buried Thursday forenoon. The funeral services were held in Fountain church. She was the only child and the parents are deeply grieved.

UMSTOT, Clifton R.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Clifton R. Umstot Sr., 57, of RD 2, died Monday, July 23, 1990 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born in Keyser on Sept. 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Ina May (Emmart) Umstot. Mr. Umstot served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired foreman with the West Virginia Department of Highways, and attended Centenary United Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow, Norma L. (Cavey) Umstot; a son and daughter, Clifton R. Umstot Jr. and Penny L. Stickley, both of Ke yser; one brother, Keith Umstot, Keyser; one sister, Delores Robinson, Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rotruck Funeral Home. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev.James E. Shepherd. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Keyser.

UMSTOT, Enoch Burr

Knobley, W. Va., Nov. 6 - Mr. E. B. Umstot died Sunday afternoon after a lingering illness. The funeral was preached at Frankfort Tuesday at 11 a.m., after which his remains were interred in the Frankfort cemetery.

UMSTOT, Mrs. Ethel Llewellyn

Mrs. Ethel (Sis) Umstot, 63, of Short Gap, died yesterday at West Virginia University Medical Center, where she had been a patient since January 31. Born in Pinto, she was a daughter of the late Huffman Llewellyn and Myrtle {McKenzie) Llewellyn-Wertz. Her husband, Lloyd L. Umstot, died in 1966. She was a member of Pinto Mennonite Church. Surviving are her stepfather, Walter Wertz, Winchester Road; four daughters, Mrs. Lenora Turner, Mrs. Donna King, Mrs. Wanda Malone and Mrs. Sharon Pyles, all of Short Gap; two sons, Gary L. Umstot, Short Gap, and Roger A. Umstot, at home; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Adams, Fort Ashby; two brothers, Herbert Llewe llyn, Springfield, and Milton Wertz, Chicago; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. The body is at the George Funeral Home, where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Oscar Ohler. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

UMSTOT, Mrs. Keziah

MINERAL COUNTY WV - Mrs Keziah Umstot, aged 73 years, widow of Simon Umstot , died Tues night at Knobley this county. Mrs Umstot is survived by the following sons living near Knobley;: Gilmore, Gibson, Charles, Amos and Bert Umstot, and Vause Umstot of Illinois. She also leaves three daughters, Mrs Lina Urice, near Keyser; Mrs Jane Fleek and Mrs Hattie Daniels, of Knobley. The funeral took place yesterday at Mt Zion Church near Fountain.

UMSTOTT, Haven Dawson

Fairfax, Va. -- Haven D. Umstott, age 85, died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, in Fairfax County, Va., from complications of Alzheimer's disease. A Fairfax resident, Mr. Umstott was born in Mineral County, W.Va., and reared outside of Keyser, W.Va. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from West Virginia University, and was a World War II veteran. He retired as an economist after 29 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to include serving in the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. He also was a small business owner, and held several patents for dual-driving steering mechanisms. He was the husband of the late Louise (Ours), originally of Westernport, Md. He is survived by three children, Ann G. Aycock of Alberta, Canada, Roger A. Umstott and Dr. Martha U. Fischer, both of Fairfax, Va.; one grandson and two great-grandchildren of Alberta, Canada; two sisters, Mabel Arant of Greenville, S.C., and Edith Amtower of Keyser; and one brother, Paul Umstott, of Fairfax. Graveside services will be conducted at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md., on Sunday, October 13, 2002, at 1 p.m., with Rev. John Footen officiating. Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements.

UMSTOTT, Hazel Irene

(same as above "Child of Mr. & Mrs. Burke Umstot") Hazel Irene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Berkeley Umstott, recently ?, age of 1 year, 2 months and 2 days, passed from earth to the arms of the real Child lover. With the bereaved parents we weep our tears and try to write for them the sympathy we feel. The obsequies are passed, but still they touch a silent, sacred cord in memory. The little form with a beauty unmarred by death, lay in a white organdy like a carved image on marble, a white carnation in the shapely hand, the couch casket, the lovely flowers, the white clad pall bearers, the careful undertaker, the gathering of friends, who felt and looked a sympathy which they could not express, the minister who dedicated the soul to Heaven and the body to the dust, the little grave in Mt Zion cemetery, all have a place in the minds archives never to be removed. But there is to this heart piercing sorrow a bright immortal side. The fond parents can allow their minds to dwell upon what she has escaped by her early departure. Had she lived on she would have had the common experience of mortals. She would have been required to mourn over sins and shed the tears of penitence. She would have wrestled hard with flesh and blood even as we do now. She would have experienced many sorrows, she would have loved dear ones and felt the anguish often of parting at the grave. But such experiences she is not now to know. Hers is the victory without the battle. She has entered into rest without even having toiled. Oh sorrowing ones, consider for a moment where your child is and what she is, with her nothing can ever go wrong. Her security is eternal. While we are trudging along through the wilderness, she has entered the promised land. In the immortal hymn which the white souled saints chant around the throne of God, you may hear the voice of Hazel, your own child, and reflect that she is your contribution to the happiness of Heaven. Though our hearts are filled with sorrow and our eyes with tears, how thankful we should be to our loving Savior who has shed the light of immortality upon the grave of little children and of whom He has said so tenderly "Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven". May the Savior of our little children be our Savior that in death and trough death and after death our portion maybe with Him.

UMSTOTT, Herbert

Herbert Umstott, 18 years old, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Umstott, died at the family home at Knobley, W. Va., Monday afternoon of pneumonia, after an illness of two weeks. The funeral took place Wednesday at 10:30 o'clock at Frankfort, with burial in the cemetery at that place .

UPHAM, Mrs. Margaret Spier

Mrs. Margaret (Spier) Upham, a Cumberland native who was active in the development of the Allegany County educational system, died Monday night at her home at 60 Elmcroft Avenue, Providence, R. I. She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Marion (Stewart) Spier. She graduated from Wilberham Academy, Wilberham, Mass., and Goucher College, Baltimore. Following the death of her husband, Alfred Elwyn Upham, the head of the Maryland Training School, in 1914, Mrs. Upham returned to Cumberland where she joined the faculty of Allegany High School on Greene Street. After serving there for three years she was appointed principal of the West Side School on Cumberland Street and remained as its principal on Paca Street until her retirement. She was a member of the Maryland State Teachers Association and the Allegany County Elementary Principals Association. She and 0. B. Boughton were the leading proponents of the teachers' pension plan. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean Howes of Providence, and Mrs. Evelyn V. Rutley, of Washington, D. C.; one grandson, Alfred U. Howes, of Providence, and one sister, Miss Anna Spier, of Cumberland. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland. The body is at the George Funeral Home where friends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Services will be conducted at the funeral home tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Maurice Robertson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Gilbert Harrison Uphold, 73, of Kingwood, died early Sunday at the University Medical Center in Morgantown following a lengthy illness. Born at Kingwood April 21, 1891, he was a son of the late James and El izabeth Stonebreaker Uphold. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Della Uphold; one son, Orval Uphold of Kingwood; one half-brother, John Uphold of Kingwood; and one grandchild. The deceased was a retired coal miner. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood with the Rev. C. L. Shade officiating. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.

UPHOLD, Jody

A 15 month old Friendsville boy died yesterday in West Virginia University Medical Center as a result of drinking furniture polish. he child, Jody Uphold, son of Clayton and Carolyn (Robinson) Uphold, drank two ounces of polish at the home of a neighbor four days ago. He was taken to Garrett County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the West Virginia Medical Center. It is reported the child's older brother left for school without his lunch money and the mother, along with her children , took the money to him. On their way home the mother and her children stopped to visit a neighbor. The bottle of polish was on the neighbor's kitchen table. A native of Oakland, he was born May 29, 1961. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Rodney and Lynn Uphold, both at home; a sister, Li la Uphold, at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Uphold, Friendsville, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Robinson, Confluence, PA. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home in Friendsville. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Sand Spring Church by Rev. Vernon Whitt. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Gorman - Lawrence S. Uphold, 51, of here, died Friday night in University Hospital, Baltimore, where he had been a patient six weeks. Mr. Uphold owned and operate a service station and grocery store here. A native of Garrett County he was born November 1, 1910, a son of the late George H. and Laura (Kelley) Uphold. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Letta (Uphold) Uphold; a daughter, Miss Shirley Uphold, at home; four sons, Daley D. Uphold, of Steyer, MD; Donald and Roger Uphold, both at home, and Edgar Uphold, Gorman; two sisters, Mrs. Jasper Sisler, Sang Run, MD and Miss Delora Uphold, Whitman, MA; a brother, Theodore Uphold, Blairsville, PA and seven grandchildren.

Lonia Letitia Uphold- 72, died at her home in Kingwood early Monday morning. She was born April 1, 1887, at Kingwood, the daughter of James and Elizabe th Stonebreaker Uphold. Survivors include one son, Arthur Uphold of Spruce Pines, NC, four daughters, Mrs. Lillie Sisler of Masontown, Mrs. Leona Miller of Tunnelton, Mrs. Bertha Clark of Morgantown, Mrs. Margaret Black of Kingwood; three brothers, Richard Uphold, John Uphold and Gilbert Uphold, all of Kingwood; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

TERRA ALTA, W. Va. - Mrs. Blanche Bertha Uphold, 83, of Hazelton, died Thursday at West Virginia University Medical Center, Morgantown. Born at Hazelton, she was a daughter of the late Harrison and Virginia (DeBerry) Teets and a widow of Peter L. Uphold. Mrs. Uphold was a member of the Mountain Dale Brethren Church. Surviving are a son, Robert Uphold, Hazelton; five daughters, Mrs. Troy DeWitt, Friendsville, Md.; Mrs. Authur Casteel, Crighton; Mrs. Dewey Rodeheaver, Hazelton; Mrs. Myrtle Humberson, Oakland, Md., and Mrs. Allen Wilson, Vienna, Va.; a sister Mrs. Minnie Schroyer, Jeanette, Pa.; four half-sisters, Mrs. Daisy Schultz, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Nellie Leggett and M rs. Dessie Chaney, both of Colorado, and mrs. May Castelle, Hazelton; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the Fike-Watson Funeral Home. Uphold, who died Sunday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where she was admitted March 21, were held Wednesday afternoon in Blooming Rose Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Uphold was born October 4, 1875, in Friendsville, a daughter of the late Al fred and Louisa Kelly. Besides her husband, she leaves four children, Mrs. Jasper Sisler, Sang Run; Theodore Uphold, Uniontown, PA; Lawrence Uphold, German, MD; and Miss Delorn Uphold, Whitman; three sisters, Mrs. Marcia Fike, Baltimore; Mrs. Ethel Friend, Friendsville, and Mrs. Letitia Forman, Bruceton, WV, 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

OAKLAND - Mrs. Lavinia Olive Uphold, 51, of Deer Park, died Saturday in Garrett County Memoiral Hospital where she had been a patient a month. Mrs. Uphold had been in failing health a year. Born at Swanton, she was a daughter of the late John and Laura (Thomas) Friend and widow of Allen E. Uphold. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Sines, Deer Park; seven brothers, Delbert and Alvin Friend, both of Beltsville; Reuben and Cecil Friend, both of Deer Park; Paul and Melvin Friend, both of Swanton, and Eugene Friend, Loch Lyn n, and three grandchildren. The body is at the Minnich Funeral Home where friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Deer Park Assemby of God Church by REv. Gail Hixon, pastor. Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Meyersdale, Pa., March 28 — Last rites for Mrs. Sadie Uphold, 63, widow of Lloyd Uphold, of St. Paul, who died Monday in Community Hospital, Somerset, were held yesterday afternoon in Meyersdale Church of the Brethren by the Rev. S. Loren Bowman, pastor. Interment was in Union cemetery. Mrs. Uphold was born June 4, 1882, in Somer set county. Her husband died five years ago. Surviving are two sons, Charles C. Uphold, of Meyersdale, and Clarence Uphold, of Davidsville; two half-brothers, Frank P. Brown, of Meyersdale, and Henry Brown, of Somerset; three half-sisters, Mrs. Zed Hefar (?) and Mrs. Andrew Stein, of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Smith, of Pittsburgh, and eight grandchildren.

UPHOLD, Oscar

A triple funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon atl 2 p. m. for Oscar Uphold, 38, and his two sons, Corliss Edward Uphold, 16, and Donald Ray Uphold, 14, of Freeport, W. VA.. who drowned Wednesday afternoon when their canoe upset in the Cherry Creek inlet of Deep Creek Lake to throw them and two other persons into 40 feet of water. The bodies of the father and one son, Corliss, were recovered shortly after by Fred C. "Buck" Dreyer and two unidentified sailors. The body of the other son, Donald, was not found until 5:15 p. m. yesterday. Pfc. Paul Uphold, a cousin of the two boys home on furlough and Otis Sisler of the White Rock community, Garrett county, were able to swim to safety. The soldier, who tried to save the other members of the party, was exhausted upon reaching shore. An unidentified girl swam out to Sisler with an inner tube. Oscar Uphold, a woodsman, was a member of Mt. Dale Brethren church. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs, John Uphold; his widow, Mrs. Martha Uphold; four sons, Vernon, Daniel, Arthur, John and one daughter, Ruth, at home; four brothers and two sisters, Allen Uphold, Freeport; Adams, Morgantown, W. Va.; Clarence, Friendsville; Theodore and Orville, Terra Alto, W. Va.; Mrs. Theodore Reckart, O akland, and Mrs. Gertrude Friend, Friendsville. The triple funeral will be held in Blooming Rose church, near Friendsville. Interment will be in Blooming Rose cemetery. The bodies will remain at the home of Mrs. Reckart, who resides on Helbig farm, near Dodge school house, four miles north of Oakland, until time for the funeral service. Dies from Bee Stings - Truman E. Uphold Funeral Tomorrow Truman Edward Uphold, 37 year old Oakland area father of five children died yesterday after bees swarmed and stung him at his home. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. An autopsy report indicated that the victim died as a result of allergic shock from multiple bee stings on his head and hand, said Dr. James A. Feaster, Jr., County deputy medical examiner. Mr. Uphold, a self-employed stone mason, owned a beehive and was working around the bees when the incident occurred. He was an Army veteran. A native of Oakland, he was the son of Jasper Uphold, Oakland, and the late Laura (Uphold) Uphold. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Naomi (Gregory) Uphold; four daughters, Linda, Charlotte, Barbara and Catherine Uphold, all at home; one son, Jacob Gregory, at home; six sisters, Mrs. Francis Grimes, Lorraine, OH; Mrs. Daisy Sanders, Rowlesburg; Mrs. Ruth Fife, Meyersdale, and Mrs. Genevieve Liller, Mrs. Gertrude Kitzmiller, and Mrs. Jennie Stewart, all of Oakland, and one brother, Clay Uphold, RD 1, Oakland. The body is at the Minnich Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. Riffle. Interment will be in Wolfe Cemetery, near Herrington Manor.

Services will be held Tuesday at 4 p. m. at the Hafer Funeral Home for Alvah Upole, 50, of Eastman Rd., near Nave's crossroads, who died yesterday morning in Allegany Hospital. The Rev. George E. Baughman, pastor of First Methodist Church will officiate and interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park. Mr. Upole has been in ill health for four years. He was a member of Cumberland Lodge No. 245, Fraternal Or der of Eagles. He held membership in Ferndale Baptist Church, near here. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Visa (Lish) Upole; four sons, Herbert and H arry Upole, addresses unknown; William Upole, Terra Alta, W. VA., and Kelly Upole, Accident; three daughters, Mrs. Flossie Thurston, Boyd, Md.; Mrs. Mytrie Bittner, Deer Park, and Mrs. Eva Harris, Bar Harbor, Maine, 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. CUMBERLAND — Gertrude Edith Upole, 92, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Golden Living Center. Born Aug. 24, 1916, in Midlothian, Mrs. Upole was the daughter of the late Cloyd Bingaman and Edith (Warner) Bingaman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Upole; a grandson, Jess Conner; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A homemaker, Mrs. Upole is survived by her daughter, Delores J. UPPERMAN, Mrs. Levada Florence Sypolt

Mrs. Levada Florence Upperman, 66, of Terra Alta, died Thursday night at her home. She was born in Terra Alta March 25, 1892, a daughter of the late Squire E. Sypolt and the late Mahala Lewis Sypolt. Survivors include her husband, John T. Upperman; four sons, James F., Clyde H., Paul E. and Junior H., all of Terra Alta; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Upperman Adrian, Terra Alta and Mrs. Edith Fuhrman of Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren. She was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church of Terra Alta.

WOODSTOCK - Hope Marie Upton, 7, Woodstock, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 as a result of being struck by a vehicle while riding her bike. Born Feb. 20, 2001 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Andrew and Stacey (Rodeheaver) Upton. She was the granddaughter of Dwain and Judy Rodeheaver, McHenry. In addition to her parents and grandparents, she is survived by one sister, Andrea Faith, 12, at home; uncle and aunt, Jamie and Jill Rodeheaver and two cousins, Jackie and Jared Rodeheaver, all of McHenry; and many great uncles and aunts; as well as extended family. FROSTBURG, June 9 — Anton Urbas, Sr., 72, of Vale Summit, died today in Miners' Hospital where he was taken yesterday. Mr. Urbas was president of Lodge No. 243, Slovenian National Benefit Society of Eckhart and recording secretary of Lodge No. 187, American Fraternal Union. He also held membership in Eckhart Local, No. 3817, United Mine Workers of America; St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Surviving are his widow, the former Theresa Liker; 13 children, Frank, John, Margaret, Dorothy and Elizabeth Urbas, at home; Anton J. Urbas, Vale Summit; Mrs. Clement T. Stakem, Mrs. John McGowan, and William Urbas, Midland; Mrs. William Kelly, Lonaconing; Mrs. Gerald McKenzie, Long Stretch; Mrs. Bernard Michaels, Eckhart, and Mrs. Guy Hardesty, Friendsville; a brother, Andrew Urbas in Yugoslavia, and 13 grandchildren.
