AHLBURN, Harry Lynn

HYNDMAN — Harry Lynn Ahlburn, 62, of RD 1, died yesterday at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Baltimore, where he had been admitted April 19. A native of Hyndman, he was a son of the late Luther J. and Mary (Pisel) Ahlburn. Mr. Ahlburn was an employe and director of the Hoblitzell National Bank and was former owner of the Ahlburn Chevrolet Garage. He was a member of the United Church of Christ where he was an elder and a member of the consistory. He was a member and treasurer of the Hyndman Lions Club; member and past master of the AF & AM Lodge 589; a member of Scottish Rites Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine and Past Masters Unit, Ali Ghan Shrine, Cumberland. An Army veteran of WW II, he was a member of Bedford American Legion Post. Mr. Ahlburn graduated from Hyndman High School in 1929 and attended Franklin Marshall College. Surviving are his widow, Barbara Ellen (Malsberry) Ahlburn; three children, Barbara Lynn and Lane J. Ahlburn, at home, and Mrs. Mary C. Johnson, Ellerslie. The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and where a Masonic memorial will be held at 8 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. Douglas Borko will officiate and interment will be in Hyndman Cemetery. Members of the church consistory will serve as pallbearers. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Baltimore County Research Center.

ALBANA, Sister Mary Hoye

"MT. SAVAGE, May 15 - Sister Mary Albana, 70, Order of Sisters of Notre Dame, died early yesterday morning at Notre Dame College of Maryland, Baltimore, according to  word received by relatives.  She had been ill several weeks and underwent a major operation about two months ago.  Sister Mary Albana entered the religious order 47 years ago and had been stationed at the college almost that length of time.  She was a daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Conroy) Hoye, Frostburg. Three of her sisters, Sister Mary Perpetua and Sister Mary Leo, Mercy Order of Sisters, and Sister Mary Eliza, Notre Dame Order of Nuns, died in recent years.  Sister Mary Albana was the guest of the Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Patrick's Convent, in July 1943, when she was here on account of illness of a relative.  Survivors include a brother, Joseph Hoye, Baltimore, and the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. James H. Weimer, Mrs. Stanley Welmer and Mrs. Elizabeth Robison, Mt. Savage; Bernard Winner, Lonaconing, and Joseph Winner, Frostburg.  Mrs. James Weimer and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Robison, were at her bedside shortly before her death.  The funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a. m. in Baltimore.  Burial will be in the Sisters of Notre Dame Cemetery."

"Requiem high mass for Larry Albanese, Sr., 76, 150 West Fairview street, Piedmont, who died Thursday in Potomac Valley hospital, Keyser, was celebrated Monday morning in St. Peter's Catholic church, Westernport, by Rev. Charles Quinn, assistant pastor, Rev. Monsignor A. Scarpati was in the sanctuary. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Active pallbearers were Larry Dimasi, Joseph Patterson, James Dastoli, Dominic Roccella, Dominic Nesci, Nick Gentile, James LaRosa and Joseph Femia. Honorary pallbearers included Patsy Dubuono, Larry Pezzanite, Dick Demichele, James Sessari, Louis Decesari, Frank Antonette, Frank Patterson and Frank Cowatch. Mr. Albanese had resided here 55 years but was a native of Caulonia, Italy. He was employed as a B. and O. trackman for 32 years. His wife, Mrs. Rose Albanese, died in 1935. Mr. Albanese was a member of St. Peter's church and the Star of Italy Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy in America. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Mary Mayolo, Miss Catherine Albanese, Miss Nell D. Albanese, Piedmont; Mrs. Rose Ashford, Washington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Dimasi, Morgantown; three sons, D. T. Albanese, Piedmont; James F. Albanese, Bridgeport, O.; Larry Albanese, Jr., at home; one sister, Miss Theresa Albanese, Italy; one brother, Dominic Albanese, Youngstown, O.; 20 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one nephew."

Mrs. Susan O'tilla Alberts, 83, of Aurora, W. Va., died Thursday morning, April 18, 1940, at the home of her daughter, at Fort Defiance, Va. She was born June 2nd, 1863 at Lost I River, Hardy County, W. Va. She came to Aurora with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Teets, as a very young girl and had since made that place her home. She was married to A. Charles Alberts, who preceded her in death, on June 10, 1929. She was one of a family of five sisters and six brothers, all deceased. Since her husband's death she has made her home with her only daughter, Hilda, wife of Capt. H. B. McCrum, of Augusta Military Academy, Fort Defiance, Va.A Guard of Honor composed of Cadet Lieutenant Van Metre and Cadet Buckmaster from the Academy accompanied the deceased to her home at Aurora, where funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P. M., Saturday. Burial was in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Aurora.  She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. H. B. McCrum and two grandsons, Charles B. McCrum and Page. N. McCrum who are both with the army of occupation in the European theatre.

ALBRECHT, William F.

William F. Albrecht Sr., 99, of Annapolis and formerly of College Park, died January 28, 2005, at Ginger Cove retirement community. Known as “Doc,” Mr. Albrecht was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Baltimore, and grew up in the area that is now Camden Yards. One of three brothers, he spent his summers as a youth visiting his relatives at Aisquith Farm in Riva. In the 1920s, after graduating from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, he and his older brother, Walter Albrecht, owned and operated pharmacies in Glen Burnie and Linthicum. In the late 1930s he opened Albrecht’s Pharmacy at College Park and moved from Glen Burnie to University Park and then to College Heights. He was active in the University of Maryland Alumni Association, the Terrapin Club, College Park Rotary Club and St. Andrew Episcopal Church in College Park. His interests included golf and world travel. His wife, Ruth Baer Albrecht, died in 1983. Surviving are two children, Nancy Albrecht Nichols of Annapolis and William F. Albrecht Jr. of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, and three grandchildren. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Gloucester St., where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Building Fund, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Barton - Mrs. Agnes (Scollick) Albright, 66, a native of Lonaconing, died February 14 at the Charleroi-Monesson Hospital in Pennsylvania. The widow of Harmon Albright, she is survived by two daughters, three sons, a brother, John Scollick of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Schaaf, Atlantic City, N. J., and Mrs. Alice Russell, Barton, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Carl Earl Albright, Sr., 84, of Frostburg, MD, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg. Born November 1, 1932, in Pocahontas, PA, he was the son of the late Simon and Florence (Hostetler) Albright. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alice (McKenzie) Albright; two sisters, Betty Bibbs and Della Berger; four brothers, Elmer, William, Walter and Simon Albright. Carl was a retired professional truck driver and a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Frostburg. He lived at Frostburg Village Nursing Home since February 2012, where many friendships were developed with residents and staff. He is survived by two daughters, Delores (Dan) Williams, Mt. Savage, MD; Barbara (Don) Bolden, Gallipolis, OH; one son, Carl E. (Elyse) Albright, Jr., Frostburg; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Rolland and Jerry Albright, and one sister, Margaret Ashcraft. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Friday. Graveside services will be held at the Finzel Cemetery on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with Harry Copan officiating.

Clarence W. "Bill" Albright Jr., 81, of Meyersdale, died Oct. 20, 2012 at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland, Md. Born June 14, 1931 in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Clarence W. and Mildred (Bryan) Albright. Preceded in death by children, Gay Leigh Cole and Michael William Albright. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty (Miller) Albright; children: Wayne William Albright and wife Leslie, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Denise Marie Smearman, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Wade Lee Albright and wife Heather, Friedens; grandchildren: Michael, Amy, Kelly, Lacey, Trevor and Cameron; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Carol Ann Janney, Del.; son-in-law: John Cole and daughter-in-law: Linda Albright. He was a member of Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church and a Scoutmaster for Troop #142. Former member of the Meyersdale Lions Club and Meyersdale Borough Council. Bill was a school bus driver for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, riding on his side-by-side, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and especially enjoyed his family and coffee time with the "ol' geezers." Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Randy Haulk officiating. Mrs. Elizabeth Albright, of Hyndman, died on Thursday of last week. She was aged eighty-seven years, eleven months and thirteen days. Her husband died about thirty years ago. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Hannah Wagus and Samuel Albright, of Ocean, Md.; Mrs. Lydia Lowery, of Hyndman; Mrs. Solomon Emerick, of Gladdens; Jacob Albright, of Vale Summit; and George Albright, of Manown.

Her husband, Roy Albright, died in 1958. Ohio, Mrs. Pat Gary, RD, Mrs. Linda Humbert. Friedens; four brothers, James Fazenbaker and Charles Fazenbaker, both of Hagerstown, Md., Arthur J. Fazenbaker, Mt. Savage, Md., Calvin Fazenbaker, Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Mary M. Nolan, Cumberland, Md.; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and tomorrow 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Douglas officiating. Meyersdale, Pa., Oct. 16 - Homer Albright, of 629 Barclay Street, Sixth Ward, Johnstown, a mechanic for the H. E. Wagner Motor Sales Company in that city, died yesterday morning in Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, where he had been a patient since October 3. Mr. Albright underwent an operation on Monday. He submitted to two blood transfusions, the first on October 8 and the second the day following the operation. He was born 31 years ago in Meyersdale, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Albright. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, the former Helen Miller, and a son, Eugene Albright, two months old. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mortician W. C. Price, Meyersdale.

ALBRIGHT, Juliana Hutzel

Death of Juliana Albright - The subject of this sketch who was one of Salisbury's oldest & most respected women, died at an early hour Mon. morning, the 11th inst., at the home of her son-in-law & daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Chauncey Meese, with whom she had been making her home since April 1922. In Oct. of that same year Mrs. Albright became afflicted with gangrene from which malady the doctors could not free her, & in time other ailments developed causing her to suffer intensely most of the time during her long affliction, until death came to her relief. Mrs. Albright was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Hutzel & was the wife of the late Jonathan Albright, the latter dying 31 yrs. ago. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom preceded her to the grave. Her four surviving children are Minerva Ellen, wife of Chauncey Meese, of this place; Ida, widow of the late Wilson Gomer, of Keystone Junction; Elda, wife of Joseph Beal, of Meyersdale; & Frank of Masontown, Pa. She is also survived by a large number of grandchildren, as well as by one brother, John Hutzel, & one sister, Mrs. Isaac Lint. She was aged 83 yrs., 5 mos. & 6 days. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. Her remains will be taken to the undertaking rooms of W.C. Price of Meyersdale where they were prepared for burial. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church of Salisbury, at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Beal, in Meyersdale, at 2 o'clock Wed. afternoon, the 13th inst. Interment was made in the Meyersdale cemetery. Mrs. Chauncey Meese, one of Mrs. Albright's daughters, was unable to attend her mother's funeral, owing to being taken seriously ill very suddenly last Sat. night. Her condition is still quite serious, & she is in the hands of a trained nurse at her home.

VALE SUMMIT ~ Louis "Louie" Emmett Albright, 70, of Vale Summit, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice. Born July 1, 1929, in Vale Summit, at his current residence, he was the son of the late James Marshall and Myrtle (Fatkin) Albright. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Marshall, and Melvin Albright. Mr. Albright was first retired after 20 years as a machinist at Celanese Fibers Corp. He also retired as proprietor of the Frostburg Amoco where he was blessed with many special employees over the years. A U.S. Air Force veteran for the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong member of the Vale Summit United Methodist Church, the Grand Lodge of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Maryland, Mountain Lodge 99 A.F. and A.M., and the Farrady Post 24 American Legion, Frostburg, and was a cornea donor to the Maryland Eye Bank. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Arlene (Kight) Albright; one son, Dennis Albright and wife, Kim; one daughter, Donna Skidmore and husband, Pete, all of Mt. Savage; one brother, Thomas Albright and wife, Irene, Boca Raton, Fla., two sisters-in-law, Margaret Albright, Glen Burnie, Erma Albright, Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Jason Skidmore, Becky Skidmore, Molly Albright, Amy Albright, all of Mt. Savage; many devoted nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, James Crowe, Frostburg. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mt. ALBRIGHT, Mrs. Mary Jane Stott

This morning about eleven o'clock, the residents of the Hill were shocked to learn that Mrs Mary Jane Albright had died suddenly at her boarding house at the hour named.  The deceased had been complaining for some time past and for the past week had been suffering with chills and ague.  This morning she was up and stirring around her boarding house and told her guests she was feeling far from well.  She was a very large lady, weighing fully 200 lbs and the burden of running the house rested on her daughter, Miss Carrie.  The house is a large one, located on Laing Avenue, and on the first floor there is a sitting or family room.  Mrs. Albright at about 10:45 went to this room, where a bed had been placed for her to rest on during the day, as her own room was on the second floor.  As soon as she had thrown herself on the bed, she complained of feeling ill.  Her daughter, Carrie, at once sent off for a physician, but before he arrived, she was dead.  Miss Carrie being the only one present when her soul took flight.  Death caused by heart disease.  The deceased was born and raised at Little Orleans and was 54 years old.  She had bright and cheerful disposition and was looked upon as a mother by all the railroad men who boarded with her.  She was well known and greatly loved by a large circle of friends on the Hill and in the Eastern portion of the county.  She leaves three grown daughters: Mrs Nettie Casekamp of Doe Gully; Miss Carrie, who lived with her and Miss Cora, a school teacher, near Magnolia.  The funeral arrangements are in charge of undertaker Stein and have not yet been announced.

Mt. Savage, Md., Feb. 21. — The funeral of Mrs. Mary Margaret Albright, 56, wife of John W. Albright, who died Tuesday at Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, will take place Saturday morning with a high mass of requiem at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery. Mrs. Albright was visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs, John G, Powers, 612 North Centre street, Cumberland, when she was taken ill on Tuesday and where her body now reposes. Charles,L. Albright, who was in Key West, Fla. at the time to his mother's death is here for the funeral.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Myrtle Albright, 76, of 79 Meshach Frost Village, died yesterday shortly after being admitted to Miners Hospital. She had been in ill health the past 10 years. A native of Vale Summit, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (McFarland) Fatkin and was a member of the Vale Summit United Methodist Church and the WSCS. Surviving are her husband, J. Marshall Albright; four sons, Thomas F. Albright, Sparks, Md.; Melvin Albright, Hagerstown; Marshall Albright, Glen Burnie, and Louis Albright, Vale Summit; three sisters, Mrs. Janet Hendley, Mrs. Pearl Filer and Miss Elizabeth Fatkin, all of here; two brothers, Joseph Fatkin, Loartown, and Lester Fatkin, here; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Porter R. Albright, 72, of 153 Bedford Street, died last evening in Sacred Heart Hospital where he was admitted Tuesday. Born in Terra Alta, he was a son of the late Charles and Rachel (Harnet) Albright. Last employed as elevator operator in the Clarke-Keating Building he was a former B&O baggage man, retiring in 1956 after 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, the IOOF and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. HYNDMAN, Pa. - Mrs. Regina A. Albright, 72, of Hyattsville, Md., formerly of here, died Friday at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born July 17, 1914 in Confluence, she was a daughter of the late Hagan J. and Nellie E. (Shipley) Yeagley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Albright, on Sept. 9, 1959. She was a member of the Christian Church of Connellsville. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty J. May, with whom she resided, and Mrs. Mary E. Burkett, Mount Rainier, Md.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. HYNDMAN, Pa. — Services for Roy Walter Albright, 58, well known Hyndman area truck farmer, who died Wednesday afternoon at his residence in Palo Alto after a prolonged illness, will be held tomorrow at 2 p. m. from the Zeigler Funeral Home here, by Rev. W. J. Lloyd. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery. A son of the late Samuel and Anna Lee (Kennell) Albright, he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include three brothers, Allen and Harold Albright, both of Somerset, and James Albright, Pittsburgh, and two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Lint and Miss Marian Albright, Somerset.

MOUNT SAVAGE — William Albright, 72, of Mount Savage, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at his residence. Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Pocahontas, Pa., he was the son of the late Simon and Florence (Hostetler) Albright. Mr. Albright was also preceded in death by one sister, Della Berger; and two brothers, Walter Albright and Simon Albright. Mr. Albright was a retired mechanic with Z&M Freight Line. Surviving are his wife, Grace (Burkett) Albright; four sons, Gary Albright and wife Deborah, Ellerslie, Donald Albright and wife Karen, Frostburg, Keith Albright and wife Cheryl, Mount Savage, and Kevin Albright and wife Rebecca, Flintstone; two daughters, Linda Woods and husband George, Alabama, and Kimberly Albright, Mount Savage; four brothers, Roland Albright, Ohio, Elmer Albright, Pocahontas, Carl Albright, Frostburg, and Jerry Albright, Salisbury, Pa.; two sisters, Betty Bibb, Glen Burnie, and Margaret Ashcroft, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitations. His body will be cremated, and a Memorial Service will be conducted at the Frostburg Church of the Brethren, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Riley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 111 S. George St., Cumberland, MD 21502. MEYERSDALE, Pa. — William F. Albright, 90, died yesterday at his home. Born in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Grimes) Albright. He was a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. His wife, Mary (Lenhart) Albright, preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Melvin C. Albright, Trenton, N. J., and Charles P. Albright, Baltimore, Md.; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Dunmeyer, Trenton, N. J.; Mrs. Ben Uhl, Johnstown, Pa.; Mrs. Ray Norris and Miss Nellie Albright, both of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Donald Klemas, Mason City, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Mary C. Jones, Detroit, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The body is at the residence where friends will be received after 1 p.m. tomorrow. A service will be conducted there at 2:30 p.m. on Monday with Rev. Donald Hursh. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Zella Mae Albright, 35, wife of Charles L. Albright, of Mt. Savage, died, this morning in Allegany Hospital where she had been a patient since Sunday. A native of Ocean, Mrs. Albright was a daughter of Mrs. Myrtle J. Merrill, of Mt. Savage, and the late Jesse R. Merrill. She belonged to Mt. Savage Methodist church. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by three brothers, James F. Merrill, of Springfield, Va.; Jesse E. Merrill, of Hagerstown, and Charles A. Merrill, of Cresaptown, and a sister Mrs. Ray E. Frankenberry of Cresaptown. The body is at the home where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Lee H. Richcreek, pastor of Mt. Savage Methodist church, officiating. Interment will be in the Methodist cemetery at Mt. Savage.

Mrs. Wilda O. Alburtis, 77, of the Fort Cumberland Arms, 10 North Liberty Street, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital one day after having been admitted there. She had been in ill health for two months. Born in Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Edward Mayhew and Ida (Biser) Mayhew. Her husband, John S. Alburtis, died in 1968. Mrs. Alburtis was formerly employed by the Crystal Laundry Company and Ginger’s Lunch, which was located on South Mechanic Street. She was a member of St. Patrick ’s Catholic Church, the YMCA Ladies Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, St. Patrick’s Senior Citizens, the Sixty Plus Club, the Allegany County Extension Homemakers Council, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Fort Cumberland Lodge 13, American Legion, the Auxiliary of the Military Order of Cooties, the Ladies Auxiliary of Cumberland Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans, and Degree of Pocahontas, Council 54. She was also a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Henry Hart Post 1411, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are two sons, John A. Alburtis, Cumberland; Donald R. Alburtis, Eckhart; three daughters, Mrs. Doris Swain, Potomac Park; Mrs. Sandra Brown and Mrs. Margaret Mundy, both of Cumberland; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30 a m. by the Rev. James McGovern, pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park. CORRIGANVILLE ~ Charles Randall Aldridge, 59, of Corriganville, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born on Oct. 3, 1949 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Marcella (Logsdon) Aldridge. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anna Mae (Bridges) Logsdon and Marshall Logsdon, who helped to raise him. Surviving are his loving wife, Susan (Burkett) Aldridge; one son, Randy Aldridge and wife Leslie, Cash Valley; and two daughters, Regina Aldridge, Australia and and Kim Aldridge and fiancé John Albright, Mt. Savage. "Charlie" adored his five grandchildren, Ryan Aldridge, Ella Sue and Zach Straker, Bailey Ann and Tallon Albright. Also, surviving are his two sisters, Marsha (Aldridge) Phillips and husband Barry and Pam Aldridge. He had one brother, John Aldridge plus numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Charlie graduated from Mount Savage High School in 1967. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart medal. He retired from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory where he worked as an x-range operator and later as a millwright. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Barrelville Outdoor Club, Vietnam Veterans and Piney Mountain Sportsman’s Club. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Bernadette Ross at the funeral home on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Denny Martin Jr., Bill Burkett Jr., Jason Burkett, John Boor, Teddy Abuceivcz and Greg Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Boor, Timmy Burkett, Bruce Burkett and Mike Phillips. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens followed by a late lunch at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Corriganville. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans and the Mount Savage VFW. Condolences and personal reflections to the family may be left at his home in Corriganville.

FROSTBURG - Joseph R. AIdridge (Smokey), 88, of 78 West College Avenue, was dead on arrival yesterday at Frostburg Community Hospital. He had been in failing health the last two years. Born at Mt. Savage, he was a son of the late Leonard and Amanda (Reed) Aldridge. Mr. Aldridge was a member of the Woodland United Methodist Church. He was a member of George's Creek Valley AF&AM 161, Lonaconing, and was a retired pipe-fitter of the Celanese Fibers Company. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pressman, of Frostburg, with whom he resided, and Mrs. Louise Poland, Woodland; a brother, Paul Aldridge, also of Woodland and a number of nieces and two nephews whom he helped rear, Leonard Speir, Frostburg, and James Speir, Loartown. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Three persons, including a mother and daughter from Mt. Savage, were killed and 13 injured in four separate motor vehicle accidents yesterday and Friday. Dead are Mrs. Anna Mae Logsdon, 65, Mt. Savage; Mrs. Marcella Flo Aldridge, 41, Mt. Savage, daughter of Mrs. Logsdon, Kenneth Richard Hose, 19, Moorefield. Mrs. Logsdon and Mrs. Aldridge were fatally injured about 2:30 p.m. yesterday on May's Curve, Route 42, about a mile south of Maysville, W. Va., when the foreign compact car operated by Mrs. Aldridge and rounding a turn went across the center line and struck a 1971 pickup truck operated by Philo L. Mongold of Alexandria, Va., a native of Maysville. Mrs. Logsdon was dead on arrival at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Mrs. Aldridge died 15 minutes after being admitted, attaches said.
Two Children Hurt
Mrs. Aldridge's two children, John, 11, and Pamela, 13, were injured in the accident and taken to Memorial Hospital here where they are in the intensive care unit. Mr. Mongold was not injured. Hospital attaches said the Aldridge boy is in serious condition with injuries to both legs and the head, while his sister is in fair condition with a head injury. Mrs. Logsdon was born in Mt. Savage, a daughter of the late John L. and Janet Elliott Bridges. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Uncapher, Bowling Green; and Mrs. Joan Clauson, Corriganville; two sons, Edward I. Logsdon and Lewis K. Logsdon, both of Mt. Savage; two brothers, Edgar Bridges, Mt. Savage; Robert Bridges, Elkins, W.Va.; a sister, Mrs. Benona Loar, Mt. Savage; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg. Mrs. Aldrige was born in Mt. Savage and was a daughter of Mrs. Logsdon and the late Marshall Logsdon.She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Aldridge; two daughters, Mrs. Marsha Phillips, Morgantown; Miss Pamela Aldridge, at home; two sons, Charles R. Aldridge, Mt. Benton W. Alexander, 66, of 474 Dunkard Ave., Westover, died Tuesday, September 2, 1980, at home. He was born April 10, 1914, in Breedlove, the son of the late James Albert and Nellie Blanche Lewis Alexander. He was a retired coal miner and a life member of the Westover VFW Post 9916. He was a veteran of World War II. ALEXANDER-MARTIN, Mrs. Grace E. Bowser

Grace E. Alexander-Martin, 92, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland. Born Feb. 10, 1908, in Jennings, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and F. Rebecca (Friend) Bowser. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, George W. Alexander in 1971, and Owen U. Martin in 1977. She was also preceded in death by one son, Russell Alexander. She was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene, the ladies auxiliary of Proctor Kildow Post 71 American Legion, Oakland, and the Oakland Chapter AARP. She was a former employee of Garrett County Memorial Hospital, the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home and Dr. Andrew Mance. Survivors include Mary A. Rose, Marshallville, Ohio, Freda V. Stout, Salem, W.Va., Gladys Flesher, Grafton, W.Va., Winona Alexander, Mtn. Lake Park, Norma Gallagher, Morgantown, W.Va., Juanita Shaffer, Mtn. Lake Park, and Charlotte Boggs, Smithsburg; three sons, Robert B. Alexander, Oakland, Dayton F. Alexander, Aurora, W.Va., and Howard Alexander, Smithsburg; 32 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, Sept. 10, with the Rev. Art Evans and the Rev. Leslie Moats officiating. Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

ALEXANDER, Harold E. "Eddie"

Mr. Harold E. "Eddie" Alexander, 81, entered into rest Monday, January 26, 2009. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors this Wednesday, January 28, at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Ray Simpson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Alexander was born in West Virginia, a son of the late James and Nellie Blanche Lewis Alexander. He was stationed with the United States Army at Fort Gordon in 1952 and remained in the Augusta area. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Jack C. Fortune Post #205. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and four siblings. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Evelyn Alexander; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Bud Carter, Donna and David Arrington, Judy and Ted Key; grandsons Bryan and his wife Dawn Poythress, Jonathan and his wife Michelle Vick, Matthew Nattinger, and Travis Key; granddaughters, Paige and her husband Trey Hazel, Shauna and her husband Heath James, Renae Alexander and Tarah Alexander; four great-grandsons and seven great-granddaughters. Pall bearers will be Brian Poythress, Jonathan Vick, Matthew Nattinger, Travis Key, Corey Poythress, Jordan Poythress, and Austin Poythress.

ALEXANDER, Helen Hedrick

KEYSER, WV - Helen H. Alexander, 92, formerly of Keyser and Gerrardstown, W.Va., died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Homewood at Williamsport, Md. Born December 4, 1911, in Upper Tract, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Vernon Preston and Ida Florence (Hyre) Hedrick. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands, James R. Barnard and Lou Alexander; and two brothers, Herschel and Vernon "Press" Hedrick. Mrs. Alexander was a retired practical nurse from Mt. Wilson State Hospital, a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and the Rachael Group. She was a graduate of Keyser High School and Hopemont Sanitarium Nursing School. Surviving are her daughter, Delores A. Bowen and husband Curtis of Gerrardstown; a brother, Harold Hedrick and wife Edna of Clarkston, Wash.; six grandchildren, Steven Bowen, Kenneth Bowen, Bradley Bowen, Bonnie Gordon, Sandra Der and Sherry Marinos; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Hedrick and Alice Hedrick, both of Keyser. Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon T. Humphreys officiating. Interment will follow in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md.

ALEXANDER, James W.

James W. Alexander died Sunday, April 17, 1955, at his home in Tuckahoe, N. Y. He was born January 20, 1898 in Ohio, a son of Rev. Walter L. and Alberta (Jackson) Alexander. He was married to the former Mary Luman. His wife survives, along with one brother, Walter, of Bowling Green, O.; and a sister, Miss Jean, Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Alexander's sister-in-law, Mrs. Nell Swartz, resides in Bedford. He is known here. He was a World War 1 veteran and a mining engineer for the Tennessee Corp. He was a member of F&AM and Consistory of Asheville, N. C. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral services Wednesday, April 20, at 2 p. m. at Barefoot Funeral Home, Rev. Ira O. Reed officiating, with interment in Lybarger Cemetery. The remains will arrive late Tuesday night, and friends will be received until time of services, at the funeral home.

ALEXANDER, John H.

John H. Alexander died at 5 o'clock Friday morning, January 30, 1917, at Somerset, at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 20 days. Mr. Alexander had been living at Confluence for 20 years, but having been working as watchman for the B and O Railroad at Somerset, he moved his family temporarily from Confluence. He had been suffering from Bright's Disease and also rheumatism for a long time but was able to attend to his work until a few days before his death. John H. Alexander was born in Somerset county February 6, 1850, and when about six years old was taken into the home of Mrs. Granger at St. Paul, Addison Township, where he spent his boyhood days. He was married three times. He married Frances Bird, April 13, 1872. She died April 23, 1873. Two children were born to this marriage, both of whom survive. They are Luther Scott Alexander, Connellsville, and James Albert Alexander, Bredlow, W. Va. He married Miss Mary Jane Spear, November 13, 1878. To this marriage five children were born, of whom four survive, namely, Amanda Elizabeth, wife of Charles Osler; Elenor Jane, wife of Jacob Tressler; John Adam Alexander, Connellsville; Effie Lurama (sic), wife of James Martin, of Albright, W. Va. After her death, he married Mrs. Margaret Osler in 1887. To this marriage, were born three children, of whom one, Stella Alice, at home, survives. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. Jennie Tressler and Ethel Rager. There are 24 grandchildren surviving and five step-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Kernecei (sic) Alexander, of Stoystown; and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Schrock, Meyersdale. He was a member of the Lutheran church. The remains arrived at Confluence Saturday noon and were taken to the family home. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 Sunday, the Rev. H. C. Summers officiating, and on Monday at St. Paul's church, Addison township, by the same minister; interment in St. Paul's cemetery.

ALEXANDER, Mrs. Lottie Morgan

Mrs. Lottie Alexander, 38-year-old wife of Scott Alexander, died last night at the family residence, 1209 Chestnut street. Deceased had been ill for some time past, but in hopes of recovering her health underwent an operation at a Pittsburgh hospital. Deceased was a daughter of James Morgan and Jane Madison Morgan, the latter deceased, and had resided in Connellsville for a number of years. She was well known in Dunbar Township. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by the following children: Jane, Ada Mae, James E. and Arthur Alexander, all at home, and one sister. Funeral will be from the family residence tomorrow at 9:30 o'clock and at 10 o'clock from the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

ALEXANDER, Luther Scott

Luther Scott Alexander, 71, an employee of Yaugh Motor Company for a number of years, died at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at his home in Brookvale after a brief illness. He was twice married. His first wife, Lottie Alexander, died in 1917. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary J. Alexander, four children to the first marriage - Mrs. Walter C. Ritchey of 104 West Morton Ave.; Mrs. Jane Fette of North Pittsburgh St.; James E. Alexander of Springfield Pike; Arthur Alexander of South Street; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of step-children. Friends will be received at Charles A. McCormick Funeral Home.

ALEXANDER, Mrs. Mary C. Luman

BEDFORD, Pa. — Mrs. Mary C. Alexander, 82, of 124 West Pitt Street, here, died Friday at her home. Born April 14, 1903 in Hyndman, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Jasper Luman and Viola (Wolford) Luman. She was preceded in death on April 17, 1955 by her husband, James W. Alexander. She became a registered nurse in 1924, working in a Philadelphia, Pa. hospital and later at Bedford Memorial Hospital, where she remained until her retirement in 1966. She was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, Good Cheer Sunday school class, Woman's Association of Churches, was a 60-year member of the Esther Chapter No. 12, Order of Eastern Star of Ashville, N.C.; and a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Carolina Shrine No. 1. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Nell Swartz, here, Mrs. Frances Clapper, Buffalo Mills, Pa., Mrs. Patricia Jones, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Clark F. Luman, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Berkebile Funeral Home, here, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. M. Edgar Datesman will officiate. Interment will be in the Lybarger Lutheran Cemetery, Madley, Pa.

Mrs. Harold E. (Myra Lucille Gregory) Alexander, 37, of 1919 Dabney Drive, died Sunday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. She was a native of Edgefield, S.C., but had lived in Augusta for 35 years. She was a Baptist. Survivors include her husband; one son, Edward Earl Alexander, Augusta; three daughters, Barbara Ann Alexander, Donna Jean Alexander, and Judy Lucille Alexander, Augusta; her mother, Mrs. Ida Davis, Beech Island, S.C.; two brothers, Wylie Gregory and Robert Gregory, Augusta; one sister, Mrs. Lois Bridges, Beech Island.

Oakland, Md., Jan. 17 - Mrs. Nellie Blanche Alexander, 58, wife of James A. Alexander, died at her home at Turner Douglas, W. Va., near Hutton, Friday night.  She was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary Lewis and a member of the Brethren Church at Pine Grove, near Sines.  Surviving are her husband, four sons and one daughter, Wesley Alexander, in the United States Engineers, now in England; Robert H. Alexander, Turner Douglas; Luther Joseph Alexander, Turner Douglas; George A. Alexander, Oakland; Mrs. Clara Bowser, Bergoo, W. Va.; also 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lezzie Henry, Huttonsville, W. Va., Mrs. Maude Pike, Turner Douglas; two brothers, James Lewis, Leadmine, W. Va., and Dick Lewis, Oakland.  Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Pine Grove Church with interment in Henry Sines Cemetery.

ALEXANDER, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth McMillan

Betty Alexander, 79, of 420 Poplar St., Westernport, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born January 16, 1926, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ellen (Poland) McMillen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ray Alexander in 1978, and a brother, Carl McMillen in 1993. Mrs. Alexander was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont. She was a 1943 graduate of Bruce High School, and a graduate of Catherman's Business School. Betty was one of the first trained EMT's at the origination of the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad. She leaves behind two sons, Eric Alexander and wife Vicki of Westernport, and Mark Alexander and wife Joyce of Westernport; two daughters, Krista Taylor and husband Alan of Keyser, and Janet Hare of Gaithersburg, Md. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin Taylor, Brooke Wood, David Alexander, Erica Daniels, Jessica Alexander, Jessica Hare and Ryan Hare; three special great-granddaughters, Kiana, Kaylee and Kaitlin Daniels; and a special great-grandson, Benjamin Wood. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1 p.m., with Rev. Bart Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. Members of the Potomac Fire Co. will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe directed to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 602 Furnace St, Cumberland, MD 21502.

SHAFT - Sharon J. Alexander, 62, of Shaft, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 30, 2008, at home with her family by her side. Born March 16, 1946 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of Margaret Speir, Midlothian, and the late James "Butch" Speir. Sharon worked in the Human Resource Department of the Western Maryland Health System. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church, Midlothian, where she was active in the choir. Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband of 40 years, Thomas F. Alexander; daughter, Stacey Fortino and husband Larry, Willards; three grandchildren, Hailey Turk, Olivia Turk and Austin Fortino; one sister, Gail Lough and husband James, Flintstone; two brothers, Leonard "Sonny" Speir and wife Silda, Frostburg and James Speir and wife Pat, Loartown. Mrs. Alexander was also survived by nieces, Shelli Knippenberg and son Shevin, Diane Clayton and Amy Calvert; and nephews, Brett Gordon and Michael Beavers. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Trinity Assembly of God Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jimmie Blair officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. ALEXANDER, Thomas F.

Thomas F. Alexander, 70, of Shaft, passed away on Tuesday, January 21st in his home. Born June 4th 1943, he was the son of the late Frank and Nellie Alexander. Tom worked as a butcher at Browning’s in Westernport and retired from Food lion in Frostburg. You could often see Tom at Sheetz getting coffee, or visiting friends in the meat department at Food lion. Mr. Alexander is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Sharon J. Alexander; sister, Mary Louise Beavers;  niece Amy Calvert; and father in law James "Butch" Speir. Surviving are his daughter Stacey Fortino and husband Larry, Willards, MD.  Three grandchildren Hailey Turk, Olivia Turk, and Austin Fortino.  Sister-in-law Gail Lough and husband James, Flintstone. Brother-in-law Leonard "Sonny" Speir and wife Silda and family, Frostburg. Mother-in-law, Margaret Speir, Frostburg. Tom was also survived by nieces Shelli Sandman, son Shevin Knippenberg, and husband Matt. Diane Clayton and family, Colorado. Nephews Brett Gordon and wife Leslie, Ohio, and Michael Beavers and wife Jennifer, Utah. Pallbearers will be James Lough, Larry Fortino, Leonard Howsare, Brett Gordon, Sonny Speir, Shevin Knippenberg and Matt Sandman. The family would like to give special thanks to W.M.H.S. and Dr. Anthony Bollino and Staff for always taking such great care of Tom. ALKIRE, Miss Rowena

Miss Rowena Alkire died yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock at her father's residence on Bedford street. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. A.J. Allen and Miss Minnie Alkire, of this city, and Mrs. John Alkire, of Alaska, W.Va. The funeral will take place from the residence tomorrow morning at 8:30. Interment at Alaska, W.Va.

BODY BROUGHT FROM PHILIPINES -  The body of Roy J. Allamong, of the Twenty-First Infantry, U S A, who was drowned in the Philippines Nov. 16, 1911, while bathing with companions, having been seized with cramps, was brought here yesterday and taken to Romney, W. Va., where the funeral will be held this afternoon.  Young Allamong at one time lived in Cumberland, where he has a number of relatives who will attend the funeral today.  -Cumb News

The funeral of Mrs Annie Allen, wife of John M Allen and daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward O'Neill, who died Tuesday morning at the home of her parents, 17 Frederick St, will take place at 9 o'clock tomorrow from St Patrick's church. The funeral party will leave the O'Neill home at 8:30 o'clock. Burial will be in St Patrick's cemetery.
