Mrs. Daddysman whose sudden death occurred on Friday, was buried from her late residence on Front St on Sunday. She leaves a husband, and several sons to mourn her loss, among the number being J H Daddysman, the merchant of this place. The deceased leaves a host of friends to mourn her untimely end. She was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew her.

CUMBERLAND — Jon Paul R. Daddysman Sr., born May 24, 1947, in Mineral County, W.Va., passed away Oct. 16, 2014. He was a resident of Cumberland. Mr. Daddysman was the son of Paul R. Daddysman of Westernport, and Violet D. Pettet of Piedmont, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved aunt, Frances E. Pettet of Piedmont and Keyser, W.Va., and his sister, Frances Hope Wells and husband George of Arlington, Va., and Dagsboro, Del. He is survived by his sons, Jon Daddysman, Jr. and wife Nora of Westernport and Jason A. Daddysman of Rawlings; three granddaughters, Jenna R. Daddysman of Rawlings, and Taylor M. and Jessica D. Daddysman; step-granddaughter, Felicia Calhoun and David; step-grandson, Randy Walters of Piedmont; step-great grandchildren Hailey Walters, Caleab Walters and Christopher Walters of Mountain Lake Park, Maddie Calhoun and Wyatt Calhoun of Terra Alta, W.Va.; and first-cousin, Sue Thomas Gearhart and husband David of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mr. Daddysman was raised in Westernport, graduating from Bruce High School in 1965. He received an AA degree from Allegany Community College in 1967, a BA from Frostburg State College in 1969, and a Masters Certification from the George Washington University in 1991. During his working career he served as Department Executive with Kate Greenaway Company of Harrisburg, Pa., Corporate Manager of Industrial Engineering with Reading Industries, Reading, Pa., and Chief Industrial Engineer with the Pfaltzgraff Company of York, Pa. In 1981, he joined BMY Company, later United Defense (BAE Systems) in York, Pa., serving as Manager of Industrial Engineering, Chief Project Engineer, and Manager of Operations Research and Cost Analysis, retiring in 2005. During his tenure with United Defense, he served as the Company’s Industrial-Preparedness Officer and as Operations member of the Future-Business Planning committee. Family and friends will be received at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Grimes officiating.

Westernport, MD - Violet Dolores Pettet Daddysman, 85, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport and formerly of Westernport and Keyser died on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. Born on August 30, 1916 in Piedmont, WVa, she was a daughter of the late Leslie Raymond and May (Samuels) Pettet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Daddysman in 1971 and sister, Frances E. Pettet in 1993. Mrs. Daddysman was a 1933 graduate of Piedmont High School. She was employed by Westvaco for several years and retired from Westernport Office of Schmutz, Harrison and Yoakus formerly Naoma Flanagan Insurance Agency in 1978. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont where she was a member of Wesleyan Service Guild and Aurora Derham Bible Class. She was a member and past president of Mineral County-Keyser Senior Citizens and a past president of Westernport Elementary P.T.A. and a former member of Women's Club of Keyser. Surviving are her son Jon Paul Raymond Daddysman of York, PA; her daughter Hope Wells and husband, George of Arlington, VA; two grandsons, Jon Daddysman and Jason Daddysman both of Cumberland; three great-granddaughters, Jenna, Jessica and Taylor Daddysman; step-granddaughter, Kelly Mortana-Mellon and husband, Chris and daughter, Claire of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by several cousins including, Virginia Rogers of Keyser. At Mrs. Daddysman's request, her body will be cremated and there will be no visitations. Graveside services and inurnment will be held Friday, October 19, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at the Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Maryland with the Reverend Elizabeth Villinger officiating. The Family has requested memorial donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 34 Jones Street, Piedmont, WV 26750 or American Cancer Society, 111 S. George Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.

While making his first trip to learn the grades, etc, known in railroad parlance as "learning the road", in order that he might accept a position as brakeman, John Daget, of Washington, D.C., was cut to pieces in the East End of Grafton yards about 10 o'clock Wed morning. Daget had passed the medical examination a few weeks ago, for a position as brakeman, and had just received his relief department book. He had never taken a single trip in the company's service, and had just been given permission to make the first trip over the road to get familiar with the work.

Mrs. Katherine Dahl, aged 67, wife of Daniel Dahl, died Sunday morning in Meyersdale, after a brief illness from apoplexy. She was stricken at 11 o'clock Saturday night as she was about to retire. She was a sister of the late Casper Rohman of Cumberland. Surviving, besides her husband, are the following children: John, William and Clarence Dahl, all of Meyersdale; Alfred Dahl with the United States Navy; Mrs. Ida Raymond, Meyersdale. Michael Rohman, Pittsburgh, and John and Nicholas Rohman, this place, are brothers, and Mrs. Charles J. Dahl and Mrs. Enoch McKenzie, this city, are sisters. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, with Rev. J. J. Brady, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Meyersdale.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Miss Madalen Dahl, 64, formerly of 319 Cumberland Street, who died Sunday in Springfield State Hospital, on Thursday at 10 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited by the Third Order and Sodality tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Mrs. Anna Eichner Dailey, 46, wife of Thomas Dniley, coal operator, died last night at her home. Main street. Westernport. She had been in failing health for the last year. Mrs. Dailey was a native of Cumberland, the daughter of J. Edward Eichner, this city, where she lived until her marriage. Besides her husband, she is survived by her father and one brother, G. William Eichner. both of this city. Funeral services will be held at 1 :30 P. m, Monday at the home in Westernport, and interment will be in St. Luke's cemetery, this city. Rev. H. Hall Sharp, pastor of St. Luke's Church, will officiate.

A telephone message from Moorefield, Monday evening about 8 o'clock conveyed the startling information that Benjamin Dailey, the well-known lawyer of that place was dead. His death occurred very suddenly, said to be from heart failure. He was here last Wednesday and Thursday on legal business and was apparently in his usual health. Mr. Dailey was the eldest son of the late Dr. R. W. Dailey, of this place, and a brother of Judge R. W. Dailey. He was private secretary to Gov. Jacobs during that gentleman's two terms as Chief Executive of the State. Following his retirement from that position he located at Moorefield and began the practice of law. He was widely known as an able lawyer, a sound thinker and a gentleman of dignity and courtesy of the true and genuine stamp. Mr. Dailey was married rather late in life to a Miss Randolph, who, with several children, survive him. His death came coincident with the State Reunion of ex-Confederate soldiers in Moorefield to which Mr. Dailey had looked forward with interest, he, himself having been very severely wounded, a ball passing directly through his body. The fact that his father, who was a surgeon in the army reached him a few hours after the wound was inflicted was responsible for his having survived. Mr. Dailey's death will be keenly regretted by all those whose good fortunes it was to known him. -Hampshire Review of 9th.

"Requiem Mass for Mrs. Clara Dailey who died Saturday at the Kooken nursing home, was celebrated Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church by Rev. George H. Pugh, assistant pastor. Rev. Linus E. Robinson, pastor, was in the sanctuary. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were George Fisher, William Glorius, Russell McBee, Francis Cosgrove and Leon Kelly. A native of Bordon Shaft, Mrs. Dailey was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Brogan) Kelley[sic]. She had resided in Westernport since her marriage to the late John William Dailey. Mrs. Dailey was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clarence McBee, Westernport; a brother, Frank Kelley[sic], Frostburg and a sister, Mrs. Ella Parke, Barberton, Ohio."

Mrs. Cora Dailey, 79, formerly of 240 Columbia Street, died yesterday morning in the Cuppett Nursing Home, Oakland. A native of Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ermma (Tralup) Dufty, and was the widow of William J. Dailey. She is survived by a foster son, George Charuhas, Claremont, Calif. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 9:30 a. m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church by Rev. Robert L. Leather. Burial will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

Frostburg, July 18—Mrs. Emma (Hendra) Dailey, a native of Lonaonlng, and resident of this city for 30 yeprs, wife of Paul P. Dailey, merchant, died last night at her home, 54 Beall street, after a lingering illness. The last of the family of eight children of the late Christopher and Elizabeth Hendra, besides her husband, she leaves one son, William Dailey, Pittsburgh. She was a member of the First Methodist church.

Arizona ~ Eva Patricia Dailey (Pat Powell), former Uniontown, Pennsylvania native passed away unexpectedly on June 28th, 2017, in her home in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 82 years strong. Pat was born in Brownsville, PA, on November 17, 1934 as the only child to Roberta Jean Dailey (Wooddy) and John William Dailey. She attended primary school at Hiller in Brownsville and graduated in 1952 from Uniontown High School. After high school, Pat went on to graduate from Nursing school and then was proudly accepted to Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowas, where she graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree on June 28th, 1963. Pat married another Palmer graduate, Kenneth J. Powell, and they eventually moved back to Montana, settling in Livingston. In 1982 she left Livingston and moved back to Uniontown after a divorce. After the passing of her own mother in 2008, Pat moved to Phoenix, Arizona where her oldest son and daughter reside. She was extremely active in the Genealogical Society, it was her true passion. In the genealogy world she was well respected and was a lifelong member of the National Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Society of Allegany County, Maryland, and awarded membership into the Latter Day Saints Genealogical Society with full privleges. Regarded as a true friend and wonderful and patient instructor by those who knew and loved her, her mentoring will be missed. Pat was an avid reader, loved history and her other passions included anything to do with Ireland and England, a true Anglophile she was! Pat is survived by her three children: son Gary F. Powell and his wife Lisa (Cechovic) of Surprise, Arizona, daughter Kenna J. Powell of Phoenix, Arizona, and son Reese W. Powell of Great Falls, Montana; granddaughter, Heidi J. Vannaman and her husband Darren of Kalispell, Montana; grandson Austin R. Powell of Great Falls, Monntana; two great grandsons: Grayson and Maverick Vannaman; niece, Tamala J. Powell of Bozeman, Montana; nephew, David M. Powell and his wife Jana (Noel) of Sacramento, California; niece, Lesley A. Shelton of Port Townsend, Washington; two great nephews: Rio Gonzalez of Bozeman, Montana and Jerry Shelton of Port Townsend, Washington. Being t he true intellect and pioneer that she was, Pat donated her body to Research for Life and in death will go on assisting others with her never-ending quest fo research and knowledge. No services are planned at this time and a private ceremony will take place at a later date. It would make her happy if anyone wanted to make a donation in her name to Wolf Mountain Sanctuary, Post Office Box 385, Lucerne Valley, CA 92356

WESTERNPORT—Services for George W. Dailey, 75. who died yesterday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ira Ryan, Franklin, will be conducted tomorrow at 9:30 a. m. al St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The body is at the Boal Funeral where the rosary will be recited today al 8 p. m.

In 1906 he played with Springfield in the Central League and in 1907 with Butler and Charleroi. In 1909 he went to Memphis, Tenn and the following year played with Goldsboro, N. C. He concluded his career in professional baseball with Winston-Salem when he was struck in the hand with pitched ball in 1912.
George's ability to peg to second and to catch fouls before they hit the grandstand wire won for him high praise here in 1905. He was one of the few remaining members of a great local team"

Dr. G. T. Dailey, one of the most widely known physicians in this section of the State, died unexpectedly Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Susan Pancake, four miles above Romney. Dr. Dailey, who has been in ill health for some time, was so far improved Sun as to drive out. Going to Mrs. Pancake's he decided to remain over night, being fatigued. Monday he got up, but had to go back to bed. Monday evening he was quite complaining and at his request Mrs. Pancake telephoned for Dr. Shull. The latter found him very weak but did not anticipate any immediate danger. About 6 o'clock he expired quite suddenly. Undertaker Racey prepared the remains for burial and brought the body down Monday night to the home of Miss Jennie Dailey, with whom he resided. The funeral will probably occur Wednesday. Dr. G. T. Dailey was prior to the time of his broken health an exceptionally successful physician, peculiarly able in his profession and widely read. No person was his enemy. Everyone who knew him and especially those who consulted him will regret most sincerely his death.

Death of Aged Citizen.
Mr. J. H. C. Daily, formerly of Martinsburg who has been making his home with his daughter. Mrs. Harry Russler died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, in his 78th year. The deceascd is survived by five sons and one daughter. One son and one daughter live in Cumberland, the balance of the family rcsides in Martinsburg. His remains will be taken to Martiniburg Sunday morning on B. & O. train No 2 for burial. Services will be at the home of Mrs. H. Russler, 54 Arch street, Saturday evening at 8 o'clock by the Rev. Osborn Belt, pastor of Grace M. E. Church.

John W Dailey, son of Mr and Mrs. Michael Dailey of Franklin was instantly killed in Fahey's mine by a fall of rock at about 8 p.m. Friday night. Mr. Dailey, Joseph Stone and John Franklin were loading the last car of the shift, when a piece of rock fell from the roof, striking Mr. Dailey on the head and crushed him to the ground. Stone and Franklin fled for their lives and gave the alarm. When assistance came it was found that another piece of rock had fallen on the first. When the unfortunate man was released, it was found that he was dead. The body was taken to the residence of Michael Dailey in Franklin where deceased had been boarding. The coroner came up from Cumberland and made inquiry as to the cause of death, but did not deem it necessary to summon a jury.
Deceased is survived by his wife and three very young children, who reside at Borden Shaft, his father and mother and brothers, Frank at Westernport; Lloyd, George, Patrick and Thomas and sisters, Annie Josephine and Mary. The funeral took place this morning with a solemn requiem mass at the Catholic church. Father Heath officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Westernport. It was a very large funeral."

"John William Dailey, aged 33 years, of Borden Shaft, Md., son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dailey, of Franklin, was killed by a fall of rock in the Fahey Coal Mine at Franklin, Saturday last, 25 January 1908, while he was loading his last car. He was working with Messrs. Joseph Stowell and John E. Franklin at the time the accident occurred. While his two companions went after assistance to remove the rock from his body, another rock fell and he was dead when help arrived. Mr. Dailey is survived by a wife and three children, who reside at Borden Shaft, and his parents and five brothers, Messrs. Frank, Lloyd, George, Patrick and Thomas; and two sisters, Misses Josephine and Mary Dailey. Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, Monday 27 January 1908 with Requiem High Mass, Rev. Charles Heath officiating. Interment was made in the parish cemetery."

The whole community was shocked on Thursday morning when the sad news spread that Lloyd Dailey was dead. He died very suddenly, being sick only one day. He peacefully passed away at 6 o'clock a. m. He was kind and good hearted and liked by all. His death was a great shock to his parents, this making the third death in their famly in three years. The funeral took place Saturday morning at 9 o'clock with high mass by Father Floyd from St Peter's Catholic church, Westernport. The services were largely attended. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dailey, he leaves the following brothers and sisters: Thomas, George and Patrick, Misses Josephine and Mamie Dailey, all at home. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Anthony Reilley, Patrick Kenny, Mrs. Joseph Schaffer, Frank Naughton and wife, John Dailey and wife, from Cumberland; Dan Collins and wife, Michael Flanigan and wife, from Mount Savage. The flower bearers were Jerry Murphy, Dan Macanlly, John Gannon, Joe Malloy, Louis Harris, John Naughton.

Death of Young Lady.
Miss Lola May Daily, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Daily, 49 Arch street, died at her parent's home, at 10:30 o'clock last night of complication of diseases, aged 16 years. Miss Daily bad been an Invalid for the past year. and recently underwent a surgical operation, and while health(sic). It was the hope of her parents aad her friends that she would eventually recover and it was within the last few days that her condition became serious. Th« deceased young lady is survived l»y her parents, and two brolhcrs. The funeral will occur Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, with services in Grace M.E Church. Rev.; Van Arsdale, officiating. Thc body will be taken to Martinsburg at 12:30 p. m., for Interment In the cemetery at that place.

DAILEY/DAILY, Mrs. Mary McCartney

Mrs. Cornelius Daily, aged 75 years, one of the oldest and most highly respected of this place, died Saturday night. She was a native of Ireland and had been in America since early life. Among the surviving children are Mrs. Peter Wright and Mrs. George Ways, of Cumberland, Mr. John Daily, of Washington, D. C and Prof. Wm. J. Daily, the dancing master of this place. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St Michael's Catholic church. Interment will be in St Michael's cemetery.

"Mrs. Michael Dailey, Franklin, Md., aged 68 years, died at 6 o'clock Sunday evening at her home following an attack of pneumonia. Dailey, 44, of 80 Main Street, Westernport, manager of the Piedmont store of the Potomac Edison Company, who died suddenly from a heart attack on Friday, were held yesterday morning in St Peter's Catholic Church,. Westernport. Rev Charles Quinn, assistant pastor, was celebrant of the mass and Monslgnor A. Scarpati, pastor, and Rev. George Pugh, assistant pastor, were in the sanctuary. WESTERNPORT — Michael Thomas Dailey, 67, died early this morning at his home, 78 Main Street, following an illness of several weeks. A native of Franklin, he was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Louise (Morgan) Dailey. A former coal operator, Dailey was the owner and operator of the Dailey Trucking Company, which he had operated in recent years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Westernport and Luke Lions Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Louise (Peyton) Dailey, a brother. George Dailey, Franklin, and two sisters, Mrs. Ira Ryan, Westernport, and Mrs. Maurice Lee, Frostburg. The body will be taken to the residence tomorrow.

Orie Fred Dailey, 53, single, died at his home,New Hampshire avenue, this morning. He was born in Paw Paw, W Va., the son of the late Lafayette and. Sarah Strowbridge Dailey. William J. Dailey. 76, of 240 Columbia street, was found dead in the cellar of his home yesterday at 4:40 p. m. The body was found face down, in the coal bin by his wife, Mrs. Cora D. Dailey. Dr. Linne H. Corson, deputy medical examiner, said death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Dailey had been dead two days. His wife had been Frostburg with her half-sister Mrs. Mollie Duffy, who is ill, and found the body when she returned home. Detective Robert E. Flynn. who assisted with the Investigation, said the cellar light was burning. It is believed Mr. Dailey was stricken as he was firing the furnace. He was a former Frostburg mail carrier and had been a ballroom dancing instructor. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church. His wife and a sister, Mrs Peter E Wright survive. Mr. Dailey is also survived by a foster son, George P. Charuhas, New York. A son of the late to Cornelius and Mary Dailey, he was born in Frostburg, but had resided in Cumberland 23 years. He was a well known as a musician in his younger days. His church connections included membership in the Holy Name Society and the Third Order of St Francis. The death of Mr Dailey is the third family bereavement in a short period. Mrs Dailey's sister, Mrs James H Cook, died here in October and her niece, Miss Emma Bepier died at Frostburg about a month ago.

Services for William Joseph Dailey, 76, of 240 Columbia St who was found dead Thursday, having suffered a heart attack, were conducted this morning at St Patrick's Catholic church with the Rev Francis J McKeown, assistant pastor, celebrant of the requiem mass. The body was placed in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Pallbearers were: Charles J Cumsky, William J Edwards, Joseph B Coniff, Alvin R Serf, Allen Hart and George H McDonough.

Two men killed, two so badly injured that they are not expected to recover, and seven others severely hurt, is the total result of a bad freight wreck which occurred Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock two miles east of Pearre, on the Western Maryland Railroad. The dead: Fireman Dyse, of Hagerstown, whose body was recovered from the wreck; Brakeman Daily, of Hagerstown, body still under wreckage. Of the injured who are so badly scalded that they are hardly expected to live are Engineer J. C. Kneisley and Fireman J. P. Hess. Two engines, nineteen loaded cars and nine empty cars are piled up down a deep gully, the wreck being one of the worst freight mixups ever experienced by the road. Failure of Operator Haag, at Pearre, to deliver a train order is said to have been the cause. It was a head on collision on what is known as Cohill Siding, about 42 miles east of Cumberland. All the injured are members of the train crews. It will take several days to clear up the wreckage.

Mrs. Cornelius Daily, aged 75 years, one of the oldest and most highly respected of this place, died Saturday night. She was a native of Ireland and had been in America since early life. Among the surviving children are Mrs. Peter Wright and Mrs. George Ways, of Cumberland, Mr. John Daily, of Washington, D. C and Prof. Wm. J. Daily, the dancing master of this place. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St Michael's Catholic church. Interment will be in St Michael's cemetery.

At her home at Toliver, Garret County, the wife of Mr Wm A Daily, brother of Dr John daily of this place, died Sunday. The deceased had been afflicted for a long time but just nine days previous to her death, she went into a tranquil sleep and continued in that condition without any intermission during that time and peacefully slept herself away. The remains were taken to Oakland.

DALY, Charles L.

Charles L. Daly, 73?, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at 11:00?? Monday night at his home, just north of the city in Camopolis street road. He had lain in coma since being stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage last Thursday evening. Prior to the stroke, he had been afflicted with high blood pressure for some time. Mr. Daly, who was the son of John L. and Sarah Bird Daly, was born Oct. 22, 1865, in Osolo township. As a young man he was one of the first carriers of The Truth. Later he was employed at the Conn factory for 14 years, then was engaged in cement construction for an extended period, then for five years was employed at the Martin band instrument factory, and after 14 years at farming worked at the American Coating Mills for 7 years before retirement in November 1937. Surviving him beside the widow, Sophie Berger Daly, are the following children: Lloyd C. Daly and Mrs. Curtis (Leona) Weaver of Elkhart, Harold O. Daly of Washington, D. C., Vernon?? Daly of South Bend and Mrs. Perry (Florence) Shupert of Chicago. There are 16 grandchildren; a brother, William T. Daly of North Webster, and a sister, Mrs. William Locke of Elkhart. Miss Mary Daly, a veteran teacher in the public schools who died June 26, 1935, was a sister. Mr. Daly was a member of St. Paul's Methodist church. The body may be viewed at the Dale White Chapel, 129 South Second street, after 7 o'clock this evening until the hour of the funeral service there at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Because of the long invalidism of Mrs. Daly, there is to be a private service, for relatives at the home at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. John Ward Rose?? will officiate.

Albion -- Harold L. Daly, 74, of N. 28-Mile Road, died Thursday in Albion Community Hospital after a serious illness of three days. He was born in Elkhart, Ind., and had been a residdent of Albion since 1957. Previously, he had spent 23 years in the east as a government purchasing agent. Mr. Daly was a Navy veteran of World War I. Surviving are his widow, the former Viola Higgins; sons, Dr. Harold L. Daly of Albion, Thomas of Fort Wayne, Ind., Charles of Minneapolis, Minn., and Frank of Washington, D.C. and daughters, Dr. Mary Daly of Albion and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Powers of Flint.

Fought In 16[or 18] Battles ~ Enlisted in Elkhart Under Capt. J.D.Braden and served through hardest fought engagements
John L. Daly, a Civil War Vetran[sic] and one of Elkhart's pioneer citizens died at the Clark Hospital this morning shortly after 2 o'clock as the result of a chronic ailment that he had suffered for the past number of years. Monday afternoon, March 25 he was removed from his late home, 318 EastCrawford[sic] Street, to the Clark Hospital, whee he underwent an operation, in the hope of prolonging his life. Although Mr. Daly was a man of marvelous vitality, his age and conditions following the operation were decidely[sic] against him, and after short but hard battle for life, he told the members of his family, that he had not long to live and was prepared to make his departure.
Fought in 18 Battles
Mr. Daly was born in Vincennes Ind, Feb 14 1841 and was 71 yrs old last february[sic]. He was a son of Mr & Mrs Lawrence Daly who were well known in this city. Mr. Daly enlisted in the 9th Indiana Regiment of Volunteers Infantry under Capt. D.G.Risley and later under Capt. J.D.Braden of this City. During is Army CAreer, he participated in eighteen hard fought Battles Among which was Stone River, Chicamaugue; Loukout Mountain; Missionary Ridge; Jonesboro and at Chattanooga. At the last battle in Chattanooga he was woonded[sic] and was forced to lay eight weeks in a Hospital at Louisville Ky., until he was entirely recovered. He was Honorablly[sic] discharged on Sept 15, 1864, after a service of three Years and six months.
Member U.B.Church
Mr. Daly was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Bird of this city, Nove. 6 1864 and settled in Elkhart until his demise, this morning. He became a member of the Second United Brethern Church in this city over twenty five years ago and had been a constant worker in that church since the time he first became affiliated with it. During his life he filled various church offices and at the time of his demise, was the teacher of the mens class. Mr. Daly was well known in Elkhart and for the past number of years, had been engaged in the nursery business. He was the local representative for the Graham Nursary[sic] Company of Rochester N.Y. Besides his wife he is survived by four children as follows; Mrs. James Huff of Elkhart, Miss Mary L. Daly employed as a teacher in an Elkhart School. Rev. William T. Daly of North Webster, Ind and Charles L. Daly of this city. He is also survived by ten grand-children. The funeral services will be held at the Second United Brethern Church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock Rev Phillips officiating assisted by Rev R.J.Wade and Dr. S.S. Light of the Methodist Church. Internment[sic] will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Lloyd C. Daly, 83, of 109 B Street, Simonton Lake, died Thursday afternoon at the Fountain View Nursing Home where he had been a patient since April of 1971. He was born Aug. 24, 1888, in Elkhart, and had been a life resident of the area. He was a land developer and carpenter. He was married to Pearl Andre on Sept.3, 1915, and she survives with two sisters, Mrs. Curtis (Leona) Weaver, Elkhart, and Mrs. Perry (Florence) Shupert, Sedona, Ariz. Mr. Daly was a member of First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Kane Masonic Lodge 183 and Concord Chapter No. 101, RAM. Friends may call at the White Funeral Home where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The First UM Church will officiate, and burial will b in Grace Lawn Cemetary[sic]. Memorials may be given to the church.

Was Teacher For 50 years ~ Weston School Principal's Funeral To Be Held on Friday Afternoon.
Death, coming peacefully, after a four month illness, this morning ended the 50-year teaching career of Miss Mary L. Daly, principal of the Weston School. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's church at 2 p.m. (dst) Friday, in charge of the Rev. E. R. Garrison, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Grace Lawn cemetery.
Injured in Fall
Miss Daly died at her home, 318? East Crawford street, at 5 a.m. She had been confined to her bed almost continually since Feb 25, when she fell on an icy sidewalk near the school in which she had served for 25 yeas as principal. The force of her fall was such that it caused a compression of one or more vertebrae. The injury weakened her, physically, and other ailments set in, causing her condition to become steadily more grave. She lapsed into a coma a week ago, and never rallied.
Lifelong Resident
At the time of her injury, Miss daly was leaviing the school after working late and did not realize the slipperiness of the walks. Despite the pain and shock suffered when she fell, she couragously[sic] walked to her car, parked nearby, and drove to her home without aid. Miss Daly had lived in this vicinity virtually all her life. She was born just north of the city in Osolo township, the daughter of John L. and Sarah Bird Daly. Educated in the Elkhart schools, she was graduated from the high school here and then attended Terre Haute State Normal school to fit herself for a teaching post.
Principal 25 Years
In 1884, having completed her normal school training, Miss Daly obtained her first employment as a teacher of the Kinney School, northeast of Elkhart. The following year she taught at Mottville, Mich., the next year at the Pittsburgh school in Concord township, and the next year at Willowdale school, which was then not a part of the city school system. In 1885 she entered the city schools teaching one year each at Beardsley and Central buildings before going to Weston. For the next 44 years she devoted most of her waking time to her teaching duties, and her diligence and efficiency were rewarded by her promotion to principal about 25 years ago. Miss Daly's kindly disposition and understanding treatment of pupils endeared her to the many children -- probably to be numbered in thousands -- who came under her influence during the formative period of youth. In recent years the school enrollment had numbered many pupils whose parents also were taught by Miss Daly.
Church Worker
Outside school hours, the veteran teacher found time to take part in the activities of the Parent-Teacher association. She was also interested in the Y.W.C.A., particularly the Business and Professional Women's club of that organization. She was a steadfast member of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal church, and had taught the Loyal Workers, women's class, in the Sunday school for 20 years. Surviving Miss Daly are her sister, Mrs William Locke, 120 West Crawford street; and two brothers, Charles L. Daly of north of Elkhart and William T. Daly of north Webster, Ind. Two aunts, Mrs. Minnie Rowley and Mrs. Etta Dotson, both of Elkhart, and six nices and four nephews also survive.

Pearl G. Daly, 86, formerly of 109 B St., Simonton Lake, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at Hubbard Hill Estates. She was born Dec. 14, 1893, in Three Rivers, and married Lloyd C. Daly Sept. 3, 1915. He died March 30, 1972. There are no immediate survivors. One sister preceded her in death. Friends may call at the White Funeral Home on Thursday, where services will be at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Robert K. Lundy, First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, to which memorials may be made.

ZEPHYRHILLS - Robert R. Daly, 70, a retired cable splicer for Indian Bell Telephone, died June 30, 1995 at Munroe Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Elkhart, Ind. and was Protestant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Daly, Ocala; daughters Janet Sue Collier, South Bend, Ind., and Jill Ann Modiano, Baltimore, Md.; brothers, Vernon Daly, Bear Lake, Mich. and Jack Daly, South Bend, Ind.; sisters, Jean Barone, Carol Daly and Patsy Daly, all of South Bend; three grandchildren. DALY, Mrs. Sarah Bird

Mrs. Sarah Daly of 318 East Crawford street, aged 79 years, died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday, a victim of heart trouble and complications after an illness since January 5. For 10 days the patient had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Daly, who was the oldest of 12 children of Thomas and Mary Bird, was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, on March 27, 1842. When she was 12 years old, her parents moved to Sumption's Prairie in St. Joseph county, Indiana, and two years later to Osolo township, just north of the city. On November 6, 1864, Miss Bird was married to John L. Daly, who died on April 2, 1912. He was a Civil War veteran. Surviving Mrs. Daly are two sons, Charles L. Daly of Osolo township, and Rev. William T. Daly of Fortville, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Cora Huff and Miss Mary L. Daly, principal of the Weston school, and both of this city; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Ephraim Bird, and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Dotson and Mrs. Warren Rowley, both of this city. Mrs. Daly was a faithful member of the Second United Brethren church, having joined that denomination 40 years ago. She was also a member of Shiloh-Field Woman's Relief Corps. She lived in her last home 18 years. The funeral will be tomorrow with services at the Second United Brethren church conducted by Rev. W. E. Pippenger of St. Paul's Methodist church.

Mrs. Sophie Berger Daly, 69, died at 6 p.m. Saturday in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Perry and Florence Shupert, 148 Kenwood. She had been seriously ill since Thanksgiving day, following a long period of ill health. The funeral will be conducted at the Dale White chapel, 129 South Second, at 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. John Ward Rose of St. Paul's Methodist church, of which Mrs Daly was a member. Burial will be in Grace Lawn cemetery. The deceased who was the daughter of Jacob and Maria Berger, was born in Oslo, Norway, on Nov. 7, 1875. Her marriage to Charles L. Daly took place Jan. 21, 1907, in Chicago, where she had lived since she was 5 years old. They moved to Elkhart soon after their marriage. After Mr. Daly's death Aug. 7, 1939, Mrs. Daly continued to live in their home on the Cassepolis (??) street road until failing health compelled her to go to the Shupert home in September, 1943. Surviving besides Mrs. Shupert are another daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Leona) Weaver of Elkhart; 3 stepsons, Lloyd C Daly of Simonton lake, Harold O. Thomas Morgan Daly August 12, 1933 - April 18, 2009 Age 75, of Springport, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Allegiance Health in Jackson. He was born August 12, 1933 in Norwalk, Ohio to Harold L. and Viola (Higgins) Daly. Thomas had worked for Dana Corporation as a Chemist. Currently, he was a self-employed farmer who raised Registered Angus which he enjoyed. Thomas enjoyed fishing. His survivors include: (2) daughters, Rebecca Hoogstraten of East Lansing and Carin Rowell of Kansas City, MO.; (1) son, Matthew Daly of Springport; (2) sisters Dr. Mary Daly of Springport and Barbara Powers, of Albion; sister-in-law, Dr. Mariam Daly, also of Albion; and (4) grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dr. Harold Daly, Frank Daly and Charles Daly, SR. A Graveside Service was held 2:00 PM Friday, April 24, at Riverside Cemetery in Albion, with Reverend Dwayne Bagley officiating. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society of American Heart Association.

DALY, William T.

William T. Daly, 73, former Methodist minister and resident of Elkhart, died at 3 a.m. today at his home in north Webster. He had been ill for 4 years of heart trouble, but the immediate cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Daly was born in Elkhart Oct. 18, 1873, the son of John and Sarah (Bird) Daly. He was first married to Jennie Leer, who died in Goshen in 1921. In 1923 he married Gaynelle Bunn of Oasian??, Ind. who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Pluth of Riverside, CAl., and a sister, Mrs William Locke of Elkhart. Mr. Daly was a Methodist minister from 1908 to 1929. He left the ministry to become a monument ...........[salesman?? unreadable] and several years ago established his home in North Webster. He was a member of the Methodist church in that community. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in that church, burial will be in Grace Lawn cemetery, Elkhart.

Leo Danahey, 77, of Elm Grove, Va., and formerly of Lonaconing, died yesterday at a Wheeling hospital. A native of Nikep, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Ricker) Danahey. Surviving are his widow, Catherine (McKenzie) Danahey, also of Lonaconing; two sons, Urban L. and Thomas Danahey, Elm Grove; two daughters, Miss Joan Danahey, at home; Mrs. Mary Frances Jordan of Kenucky; two sisters, Mrs. Nana Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Helen Folmer, Elm Grove; a brother, Frederick Danahey, Elm Grove, and seven grandchildren. Urban L. Danahey – Urban Leo Danahey, 40, of Elm Grove, W.Va., and formerly of Lonaconing, died yesterday. Mr. Danahey was a son of Mrs. Catherine (McKenzie) Danahey, Elm Grove, and the late Leo Danahey. Mr. Danahey was a member of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church of Elm Grove. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his widow, Mrs. Mary Margaret Danahey; a son and daughter, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Dennis Jordan, Plainsfield, N.J.; and Miss Joan Danahey, Elm Grove; and one brother, Thomas Danahey, Elm Grove. Friends will be received at the Altymer Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan Danahey, at home; Mary Frances Jorden, Griffith, Ind.; one brother Walter McKenzie, Ellerslie; one sister, Ellen Lee Cordial, Lonaconing; 2 grand-children and four great-grand-children. Wheeling, W. VA., Feb. 5 ~ Mrs. Helen Ricker Danahey died Thursday night in Wheeling Hospital. She had been active up to just a few days ago. Mrs. Danahey was born in Lonaconing, Md., on August 17, 1868, and received her early education in the schools there and was married there to John J.[sic, T.] Danahey, who died in 1937. She came to this city, settling in Elm Grove in 1923, and has resided at 2131 Marshall avenue since. She was a devout member of St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church in Elm Grove and an active member of that parish. She also was a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society and the Royal Neighbors of America. Up until the time of her illness she had been active in Red Cross aid work. Surviving are four sons, John, Leo, Fred and Julius, all of Elm Grove; three daughters, Mrs. John Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Harry Garlitz and Mrs. Melvin Folmar, all of Elm Grove; 30 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, John Ricker, Elm Grove, and five sisters, Mrs. Thomas Mullen, Piedmont, W. VA.; Mrs Harry Weger, Baltimore; Mrs August Winkler, Bellaire, and Adelaid and Clara, both of Baltimore. Funeral services will be held in the Altmeyer Funeral Home here on Monday morning, to be followed by a high Mass of Requiem at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Elm Grove. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

DANAHEY, John Thomas

Lonaconing, Md., Dec. 2 ~ Man Killed In Unusual Accident
While engaged in picking coal under the tipple of the Pekin Mine of the A. K. Althouse Coal Co., John Thomas Danahey was fatally injured early yesterday morning, when a large lump of coal fell from a car striking him on the head. As was his daily custom, he went to the tipple for his morning's supply of coal which was gathered from the overflow of cars as they were loaded for movement on the railroad. The lump of coal which struck him, fractured his skull, penetrating the brain. He was taken to the Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, in an Eichhorn ambulance, but died en route. Mr. Danahey was a native of Ireland, County Cork, and came to this country when but five years of age, settling in Martinsburg, W.Va., later moving to this section, where he since resided. He was the son of the late Matthew and Margaret Danahey, the former an employee of the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad Co. who was killed on the Union Street crossing by a runaway team of horses, while tossing a child from the path of the team. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Ricker Danahey, and the following children: John, Leo, Frederick, Julius, Mrs. John W. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Harry Garlitz, Mrs. Helen Folmar, all of Elm Grove, W. Va., and Mrs. Harry W. Reed, Beall street, Cumberland. He is also survived by thirty-one grandchildren. One sister, Miss Mary Danahey, Pekin, with whom he made his home, also survives. Mr. Danahey was a miner for many yrears, later being an employee of the Cumberland Contraction Company. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Barton, Md.

Her death is a hard blow to her aged husband and to her children, likewise to her neighbors.

Badly Injured By Runaway Team
Yesterday afternoon a runaway team knocked down Mr. Matthew Donahey, flagman at the crossing of the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad near the post office, badly inuring[sic] him and causing what may result in serious hurts. His nose is said to have been broken and it is feared internal injuries may also have been sustained. Mr. Donahey is past 80 years old and his advanced age may operate against his early recovery. The team is owned by Mr. George Ternent, general merchant, near the railroad crossing, and had gone to Jackson High Row about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The driver a young man named Spiker, left the team standing, as usual, while he delivered some merchandise to a customer. While he was inside the house, the team became frightened and ran away, running down Jackson street at full speed. Dr. Donahey, who was standing in the centre of the crossing, saw the team as it turned the corner in front of the Mystic Chain Building, and he attempted to stop the horses. When near him, the horses turned suddenly to the right and the "tongue" of the wagon struck Mr. Donahey, knocking him down. Amost[sic] simultaneously, one of the horses slipped on a rail and in scrambling to regain its feet, stepped on the aged man's face and chest. Spectators picked Mr. Donahey up immediately and carried him into the waiting room, and Dr. W. Q. Skilling who had been summoned, arrived promptly and rendered surgical aid, after which the injured man was removed to his home in Pekin. Mr. Donahey has been in the employ of the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad Company for many years, working with the section repair men until a few years ago when he was given the position of flagman at the crossing, after a previous accident. Mr. Donahey has several married sons and daughters. He is a well known old gentman[sic], being a familiar personage to almost every man, woman and child in this vicinity, and of a particularly jovial and social disposition, possessing the characteristic wit and humorous phases of tendencies of the native Irishman. Much anxiety is felt in the probable outcome of his injuries, which are regarded as quite serious, complicated by his advanced age. Considerable damage was done to the Ternent delivery wagon before the runaway horses could be stopped.

Lonaconing, Md. Aug. 20
As foretold in this correspondence yesterday, the injuries sustained from the runaway team of Merchant George Ternent, by Mr. Mathew[sic] Danahey, of Pekin, on Monday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, proved fatal and Mr. Danahey succumbed yesterday before noon. Mr. Danahey, who was flagman at the C. & P. R.R. crossing near the post office, and only a few feet diagonally opposite the Ternent store, endeavored to check the runaway team as it case[sic] tearing down Jackson street to the railroad crossing, but he was knocked down and trampled upon by one of the horses, receiving internal injuries in the chest and face. Although Dr. W. Q. Skilling responded promptly and rendered first aid to the injured man, who was taken to his home in Pekin. Mr. Danahey never regained consciousness. The pain he otherwise must have suffered was therefore, minimized. Dr. J. O. Bullock, the attending physician, gave no hope to his family after examination and on Wednesday advised them that death would be a matter of only a few hours. Mr. Danahey was born in county Cork, Ireland, in 1831, and he was therefore in his 84th year. Coming to America in 1868, he located in Martinsburg, W. Va., but remained there only two years coming to this lacality[sic] and taking up his residence in Pekin in 1870. Mr. Danahey was employed on the repair work of the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad and was continuously in the employ of the company up to the time of the accident which caused his death. Two years ago he was injured in an accident, when the handcar on which he and other employes were riding, jumped the track, and on his recovery was transferred from the repair squad to be flagman at the crossing where he was injured on Monday. Mr Danahey possessed all the wit and joviality so characteristic of the Irish race and he was a famiilar[sic] personage to old and young alike, being known throughout this vicinity and highly esteemed by all. The deceased is survived by one son, Mr. John Danahey, of Lonaconing, and one daughter, Miss Mary Danahey, who kept house for her father, his wife having died several years ago. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock, going on the electric cars to Barton, where services will be held in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, of which the deceased had been a communicant since coming to this vicinity. Rev. Father A. Scorpati, the pastor, will officiate, and interment will be made in St. Gabriel's Cemetery.

Funeral services of the late Matthew Donahey[sic] were held in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Barton, this morning. Rev. Father A. Scarpetti, the pastor, officiating. The remains were taken from the late home of the deceased in Pekin on the electric railway about 9 o'clock. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery, Barton. A large number of friends and neighbors of the deceased attended the funeral from Lonaconing, Pekin, Barton and other points, Mr. Donahey[sic] being well known and held in high regard by all.

JUDGE DANDO PASSES AWAY ~ He Was a Member of the Orphans Court ~ HE HAD BEEN ILL SOMETIME ~ He Was One of the Most Prominent Men in the County—Was Once a Member of the Maryland Legislature.
Judge of the Orphans' Court for this County James Dando, died this morning about 8 o'clock at his late residence at Frostburg, aged 68 years. The deceased had been ill with a complication to diseases for nearly a year arid for that reason had not been present at any of the sessions of the Orphans' Court since April last. Judge Dando was one of the best known as well as one of the most prominent men in the county, and was an ex-member of the Maryland Legislature. He was elected a judge of the Orphans' Court on the Republican ticket, and had two years of his term yet to serve. Judge Dando was a prominent Odd Fellow, and was a consistent member of the Baptist church. He is said to have died without leaving a known enemy, but on the other hand honored and respected by al! who knew him. The deceased worked in the mines around Frostburg for years, and knew what it was to toil, as he raised a large family. He is survived by a widow and the following children: William Dando. of Glassport, Pa., and Owen, James. John, Elizabeth, Sarah, Elsie. Mrs. Mary Rank and Mrs. Frederick Dillon, all of Frostburg, and Annie, a trained nurse in New York. The death of Judge Dando leaves a vacancy in the Orphans' Court which will have to be filled by the Governor. The names of Messrs. Fuller Barnard, of Westernport. Andrew Nelson, of Eckhart, and James Anderson, of Lonconing, all Democrats, are being mentioned for the place. There are three members of the Orphans' Court. The remaining two being Judge Brashears, Republican, and Judge Davis, Democrat. Should Governor Warfield appoint a Democrat to fill the vacancy, the court would consist of two Democrats and one Republican.

The funeral of the late Judge Jas. Dando, who died at his home at Frostburg Monday, took place this afternoon from the Dando residence and was one of the largest funerals ever witnessed in Frostburg. A large number of people attended the funeral in this city, his associates on the bench and many others from Cumberland, paying their last respects to the deceased member of the Orphans' Court.

FROSTBURG— Mrs. Rachel H. Dando, 87, Hill Street, widow of William Dando, died yesterday in Miners Hospital. Born near Flintstone, she was a daughter of the late William and Martha (Koontz) Hamilton, pioneer residents of that area. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Letitia Conroy; Eckhart; Mrs. Lillian Hamilton, at home, and Mrs. Mildred VanHorn, Cumberland, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. William J. Yingling, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will in be Frostburg Memorial Park.

WILLIAM DANDO DIES AT FROSTBURG HOME ~ Allegany County Member of State Legislature Succumbs to Heart Disease.
William Dando, a member of the Maryland State Legislature from Allegany Co, died at his home, 92 Hill St, Frostburg last night. Death was due to heart disease from which Mr Dando had been suffering since his return from the last session Legislature. He had been confined to his home for the last six weeks. Born October 13, 1869 in Eckhart, Mr Dando was associated throughout his life with commercial and political activities in Allegany County. After graduating from the public schools at Frostburg, he went to Dickinson Seminary and entered a business career. For five years he was a bookkeeper for the Annan-Jeffries Coal company and soon after became secretary of the Curtin M Graham estate and secretary of the Pittsburgh Steel Foundry Co of Glassport, Pa. In 1923 and 1924, he served as a member of the Allegany delegation of the Maryland Legislature and was re-elected in 1926 for a four year term. Mr Dando was associated with the First English Baptist Church of Frostburg and was a member of the Mountain Lodge No 29, Ancient Free and Accepted Order of Free Masons. His wife, Rachel; one son, William H Dando, Julian, Pa and three daughters, Letitia Conroy, Eckhart and Misses Lillian and Mildred Dando at home. Two brother, seven sisters and five grandchildren also survive.

Dando Rites Tomorrow with Masons in Charge
Frostburg, Md. Aug. 30—The funeral of William Dando; aged 68 years, who died at his home on Hill street Sunday night, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence, under the auspices of Mountain Lodge, No. 99. A. F. and A. M. Interment will be in Allegany cemetery. Mr. Dando was a member of the Maryland Legislature 1923-24 and 1926-27, the latter term marking the beginning of his ill health which caused his death. Mr. Dando was a llfe-long Republican and prominent in numerous affairs of State and community. Aside from his widow, Mrs. Rachael Dando, four children survive as follows: Mrs. Letitia Conroy, Eckhart, William H. Dando, Julian. Pa., and Misses Lillian and Mildred of the home. Owen Dando, John T. Dando, Misses Elizabeth, Sarah, Grace H. Dando, Mrs. Mary J. Rank. Mrs. J. Fred Dillon. Mrs. Clifton Gels, this city, and. Mrs. Hillis C. Parmelle, Denver, Colorado, are brothers and sisters.

Mr Walter Daniel, son of H F Daniel, died at the home of his father last Wednesday night in the twenty second year of his age. He was taken ill Monday night, caused by eating oysters that had a disease germ in them, later a link formed in the bowel, resulting in intestine paralysis. Three skilled physicians were in attendance, but were unable to give relief. Funeral services were held in Short Gap Church this forenoon and the body buried at Frankfort. His mother died about one year ago. His father, one brother and three sisters survive him, and they have a sympathy of a large circle of true friends. Death is always sad, but it was unusually sad in this instance when it claimed a young man with so many friends and bright prospects.

Charles L. Daniels, 67, of Spring Gap, died this morning at the State Sanitarium at Sabillasville, where he had been a patient a month. He was a farmer and had resided at Spring Gap his lifetime. Mr. Daniels was a member of Mt. Tabor Methodist church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie (Yommer) Daniels; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Beeler, Spring Gap; three grandchildren, Gladston, David and Mary Lou Beeler, of Spring Gap; three brothers, Thomas Daniels, Mt. Gilead, Ohio; George Daniels, St. Louis, and Lee Daniels, of Cumberland; and a sister, Mrs. Ross Allen of Fort Ashby, W. Va. The body will be brought to the Hafer Funeral Home here and then taken to the residence at Spring Gap tomorrow evening. No arrangements have been made.

Jacob A. Daniels, 62 years old, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad locomotive engineer, died last night at his home, 113 Grand avenue, following a protracted illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Patience Daniels, and the following children: Stanley, Marold, Winfred, Eloise, Eleanor, Marion, and Kathleen Daniels, all of this city; two grandsons, Junior and Richard Daniels; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Rice, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Rose Allen, Alaska, W. Va.; and four brothers, Thomas, LaRue, Ohio; George, St. Louis, Mo.; C. L. Daniels, Spring Gap; Lee Daniels, this city. Mr. Daniels was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Trinity M.E. Church, South, Grand Avenue. Burial will be at Frankfort, W. Va.

Moorefield has again been shrouded in gloom by the death of two worthy and highly esteemable citizens. Mr John Daniels and his wife. Mrs. Daniels passed away about 8 o'clock Friday night and at 4 Saturday morning Mr Daniels breathed his last, aged 55 years. John W. Daniels was formerly of this county being a son of Jacob P. Daniels, Esq., of Mineral, but for 25 or thirty years has been identified with the people of Hardy. For a number of years he was associated in the milling business with A. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Margaret (Kelley) Daniels, 86, of 68 Broadway, died Tuesday, July 24, 1990 at Frostburg Community Hospital. Born in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Lena (Crawford) Kelley. Mrs. Daniels was the oldest living member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of Cresap Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and formerly served as the chapter’s historian and on several of its committees. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Mrs. Daniels is survived by three nieces, Marilyn “Pat” Naughton, Bowie; Barbara Garlick, Alexandria, Va.; Carol DeVore, Westernport; one nephew, Thomas P. Kelley, Catonsville; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Frostburg,by the Rev. Michael Ellis. Interment will follow in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

Nina Louise Daniels, 84, of 207 Central Ave., Westernport, and formerly of Moorefield, W.Va., passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her residence. Born Nov. 7, 1923, in Luke, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Essie (Harshbarger) Ferguson. Three brothers, Clyde, Don Ivan, and Gerald Ferguson, and a sister, Gladys Harrison, also preceded her in death. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. Mrs. Daniels was a 1941 graduate of Bruce High School, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Westernport United Methodist Church, Vine St., where she was formerly the church secretary, a former Sunday School Teacher, and a former member of the church choir. During her years spent in Moorefield, she was a member of Duffy Memorial United Methodist Church, where she participated in prayer group. Nina was also active with the Hardy County Habitat for Humanity, and the Moorefield Active Caring House. She was well known for weaving rugs. She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, John "Danny" Daniels; one son, Tom Allen Daniels, of Burlington, W.Va., two daughters, Susan Ray Biddle and husband Allen, of Keyser, W.Va., and Linda DeVore and friend Pat Minogue, of Westernport. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Darrell Wildesen, Julie Derham, Justin Wildesen, John T. Daniels, Ashley Daniels and Heather Windle, and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Osgood, the Rev. Sandy Cowan, and the Rev. William Shimer officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Westernport United Methodist Church, Vine St., Westernport, MD 21562.

Mrs. Patience Ginn Daniels, 93, of 113 Grand Avenue, died yesterday at her home. Born February 10, 1875, in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Marker) Ginn. Her husband, Jacob A. Daniels, preceded her in death. She wa a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the church, and the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She is survived by two sons, Harold Daniels, Tampa, Fla., and Winfred Daniels, Wadesboro, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Albert Humbertson, Parkersburg, W.Va.; Mrs. Olen Mosser, Corriganville; Mrs. Norma Smith, with whom she resided; and Mrs. Edward Neild, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Wendt Funeral Home.

PIEDMONT — Mrs. Susan (Sharetts) Daniels, 95, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leone Mclnnis, Bawmont, W. Va. Mrs. Daniels was the widow of John T. Daniels and was a member of the Westernport Evangelical United Brethren Church. Also surviving are two other daughters, Mrs. Nancy Kooken, New Jersey, and Mrs. Edna Flick, Deer Park; four sons, Earl Daniels, Farmington; Bruce Daniels, Erie, Pa., and Martin and Darwin Daniels, Spelter, W. Va.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Landacre, Bridgeport, W. Va., and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, until 10 a.m. tomorrow when it will be taken to the Tasker Cemetery at Cross for services by Rev. C. F. Hickle, pastor of Westernport EUB Church.

Hiram F. Daniels, 84, Short Gap, W.Va., died yesterday after a long illness. He was a son of the late Jacob P. and Elmira (Alkire) Daniels. Surviving are a son, William J. Daniels; three daughters, Mrs. Jesse Abe and Mrs. T. J. Long, Short Gap, and Mrs. Charles Deremer, Fort Ashby, W. Va.; a sister, Mrs. H. M. Marian Arline Wortman Daniels, of 103 Hill St., Westernport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 6, 2009. Born in Covington, Va., on March 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Lyman Everett (Red) Wortman and Grace Pearl (Willard) Wortman. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rena Magruder. She lived in Luke and Westernport most of her life. As a young lady she sang at the Mountain Lake Park summer music festivals and the Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was a 1940 graduate of Bruce High School where she helped to form the first PTA and was vice president of the Band Parents. In 1935, she joined Piedmont Presbyterian Church, served as secretary of the Sunday School, was a member of the Adult Bible Class, the Presbyterian Women, serving all its offices, and Circle Chairman. Surviving are children Cynthia Welch and husband Vernon Edward, of Swanton, Diane Miller DeMacio and husband Anthony, of Virginia Beach, Va., and David Daniels, of Keyser, W.Va.; grandchildren Drew Welch and wife Nikki, of Littlestown, Pa., and Robert S. Miller IV and wife Tiffany, of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandchild, Ciera Welch, of Littlestown, Pa.; sister, Lora Ann (Bill ) Fahey and husband Tom, of Westernport; and nephews, Thomas Magruder, of Hagerstown, and Terry Fahey, of Macon, Ga. The family will receive friends at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Piedmont Presbyterian Church, Piedmont. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Philos Cemetery, Westernport. Memorial donations may be made to Piedmont Presbyterian Church, Piedmont.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. — Mrs. Minnie Daniels, 95, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday in Valley View Nursing Home, here. Born at Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late John Yommer and Dora (Hanst) Yommer. Her husband, List Daniels, died in 1946. Surviving are three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the Helsley Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Spring Gap, by the Rev. Richard McNally. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

PATTERSON CREEK Jan 10, 1912 - Walter, the youngest son of Mr Hiram Daniels, of Short Gap, was taken violently sick New years eve from eating stale oysters and lingered in great agony until Wed night when he died. he was 22 years old and was to have been married in two weeks.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Lillian S. Dann, a native of Frostburg, died yesterday in St. Petersburg, Fla., following an illness of one week. She was the widow of William C. Dann, and the daughter of the late Henry C. and Mary Louise (Geis) Shuckhart, Frostburg. She resided in Elkins, W. Va., and St. Petersburg, most of her life. Her only survivor is a brother, Gurmond Shuckhart, 107 Wood Street. Services and interment will take place in St. Petersburg.

Mrs. Marian Danner, a former resident, died in a Jackson, Mississippi, Hospital. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Mary (Offman) Crowe. Her husband, Harvey Danner, preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Allegany High School and Woman's Hospital for Nursing. Surviving are a son, Harvey Danner Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. Ovelia Walker, Cumberland; Mrs. Katherine Poland, Westernport; Mrs. Martha Warehime, Baltimore, and Mrs. Ora Pollock, Rehobeth Beach, Delaware; two brothers, William Crowe, Cleveland, Ohio, and Orville Crowe, Baltimore. Services were conducted at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Meridian, Miss.

Death of Mrs. Danner.
Mrs. Mary M. Danner, widow of Lewis R. Danner. died yesterday afternoon from paralysis, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Brophey(sic), Sylvan avenue, this city, aged 75 years. Mrs. Danner was a native of Cumberland and resided in this city all her life. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The surviving children are Mrs. William Brophy, Chas. E. Danner and G. W. Danner. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Wm Fredericks, of Johnstown, Pa. and Mrs. M. Y. Rabold, of Baltimore, Md.: also seven grandchildren. The remains will be removed tomorrow afternoon to her late residence. No. 723 North Mechanic street, from which place the funeral will occur Friday afternoon.

James E. Danser, 78, of Morgantown. died Friday, July 21, 1995, in the Oncology Section of Monongalia General Hospital. He was born September 14, 1916. in Tunnelton, son of the late Lavada Rose and Elmer Roy Danser. He was from a family of 10 brothers and four sisters. He retired as a mine foreman with Consolidation Coal Co. At one time, he and four brothers worked for Arkwright Mine. During the 1930s, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oregon. He was a member of the Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church and was active in the American Red Cross Blood Services. He was also a member the Sincerest Kiwanis Club, having taken special pride in picking the Kiwanis Student of the Month Awards in the Riverside School and the Cass District Elementary School. He was a member of Joseph W. Summers Masonic Lodge 173, Morgantown Shrine Club, Mountaineer Patrol, Morgantown Chap¬30 RAM, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S. J. USA 32nd Degree of the Valley of Morgantown Orient of West Virginia, Osiris Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Wheeling, Upper Monongahela Valley Shrine Club, and Morgantown Commandry 18. He is survived by his wife, Ida Gallagher Danser; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Michael of McLean, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Pat and Margaret Danser of Morgantown; a son, Gregory E. Britton of Morgantown; four sisters, Mary Harsh of Westover, Ethel Liston of Lanham, MD, Mabel Maier of Monaca, PA, and Mildred Riley of Wadsworth, OH; and five grandchildren. Victor Roy Danser, 82, of Morgantown, died Sunday, July 4, 1993, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1910, in Tunnelton, a son of the late Elmer Roy and Lavada Rose Danser. He was a member of Living By Faith Church. He was a former coal miner with Arkwright Mines and was a former member of United Mine Workers of America Local 5429. He later retired from Sterling Faucet Co. after more than 17 years of service and was a member of the AFL-CIO. MEYERSDALE, Pa. - William L. Danver, 59, of Washington, Pa., died Tuesday in a Pittsburgh hospital. Born at Beaver, he was a son of the late James and Anna (Lose) Danver. Mr. Danver had been employed for 32 years as field superintendent for an engineering firm in Pittsburgh. He is survived by his widow, Mabel (Beal) Danver, a daughter of Mrs. Elda Beal, Meyersdale; a brother, James L. Danver, Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Esther Klair, Zeleonople, Pa. The body will be at the Price Funeral Home after 2:30 tomorrow. Services will be conducted there Saturday at 1:00 by Rev. Charles Staub. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Admitted to Allegany Hospital last Saturday, Frank R. Darby, Fort Cumberland Hotel, former general passenger agent of the Western Maryland Railway, died last night. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home and will be sent tomorrow to Cransford, N.J., for services and interment. Mr. Darby had been in ill health for the past several years and spent several winters in Florida after he retired about five years ago following 12 years of service as freight agent for the Elkins division of the railroad here. He was a native of Fort Mott, S.C., and a member of the Episcopal church. He is survived by one son, J. B. Darby, Cransford, N.J., and five sisters, Mrs. E. P. Miller, Columbia, S.C.; Mrs. S. S. The body of Frank R. Darby, Fort Cumberland Hotel, former traveling passenger agent for the Western Maryland railway, was shipped to the Gray funeral home, Cranford, N.J., yesterday afternoon. The time of the funeral has not been announced. He died Friday night in Allegany hospital.

Lonaconing - An 18-month-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Darkey of Pittsburg died at the home of Clarence Kight on Ormand Street on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Darkey came here to spend the fourth with relatives and friends. Their little one was taken sick and died very suddenly.

Mrs. Catherine Darnley, 80, widow of C. E. Darnley, died this morning at 2:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Doolan, Mrs. Darnley was born in Scotland near Edinburgh. She had been a resident of Lonaconing 74 years, coming here with her parents when six years old. She was active in the Presbyterian church. She is survived by two sons, James Darnley, Meyersdale, Pa., and David Darnley, Lonaconing and seven daughters, Mrs. John Mowbray, Barton, Md., Mrs. James B. Faneney (sic-Braheny) and Mrs. Alexander McFarland, Cumberland, Md., Mrs. James Wilson, New Haven, Conn., Mrs. John Hardegan, Mrs. William Turnbull, and Mrs. Frank Doolan, Lonaconing. Her descendants include 37 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mrs. Darnley is survived by two brothers, David and Walter Mackey, Lonaconing, and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas McKinnon, Lonaconing, Mrs. John Sigler, Anaconda, Montana, and Mrs. John Penman, Washington, D.C. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Doolan home. The Rev. Edward J. Travers, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Lonaconing, Jan. 2 — David Darnley, 67, a former Kelly-Springfield Tire Company employe, died yesterday morning at his home on Railroad street following a long illness. He had worked at a local service station in recent years. Born at Pekin, Mr. Darnley was a son of the late John and Catherine (Mackay) Darnley. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lynn (Hotchkiss) Darnley; three children, John Darnley, of Luke; Marian Darnley, at home, and a married daughter, Evelyn, of Dundalk; and four sisters, Mrs. Jane Turnbull, Mrs. Catherine Hardegan and Mrs. Christine Doolan, all of Lonaconing, and Mrs. Maude McFarland, of Cumberland. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the residence with the Rev. C. H. Goshorn of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Prisoner Identified ~ Man Held at Greensburg Shown to be Murderer
Greensburg, Pa - Apr 3 - Exclaiming 'There is the murderer of my father!', George Darnley 19 years old, caused the arrest late last night of Nick Kremer, a Radebaugh Austrian. Last March 17, James Darnley, his son, George, James Neilson and John Proctor all of Hempfield Slope, one mile East of Greensburg were held up along the Pennsylvania railroad tracks at midnight by three foreigners. A battle ensued and the Hempfield men were getting the better of the battle when one [of] the foreigners in retreating fired four shots. One ball struck James Darnley in the groin and he died the next day. Soon after the shooting, a bareheaded man appeared at the Darnley home and asked for a hat. Darnley's daughter was frightened and closed the door in the man's face. She today identified the man under arrest as the one who had been at her home on the night of the murder. (Unreadable) Kremer, alleged to be one of the trio, was captured on the night of the holdup. He is a brother of the suspect taken last night and is still in jail. James Darnley, aged 82, died last night at 11:30 o'clock at his home in Detmold. He came to this country from Tanarschere(sic), Scotland in 1865. He leaves 12 children, all married, but one.

DARNLEY, James P.

Lonaconing, Oct. 13 - James P. Darnley, 48, veteran of the first World War, died early Tuesday morning in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, following an illness of two years. He was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday. Born in Lonaconing February 27, 1894, Mr. Darnley lived there until his enlistment in the United States Army during the first World War. He served four years overseas. While in Germany he married Marie Landon, and they came to Lonaconing to make their home. Following the death of Mrs. Darnley five years ago, he entered Mountain Home Veterans’ hospital in Tennessee, and in March he was in the Dayton Veterans’ hospital, Dayton, Ohio. Since June of this year he resided with his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McKenzie, in Detmold. He is a member of the Methodist church and James P. Love Post #92, American Legion, Lonaconing. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home in Detmold, with the Rev. Lewis F. Ransom, pastor of the Lonaconing Methodist church, officiating. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Sarah Dunn McKenzie; his step-father, Mr. Clarence McKenzie; his father, Robert Darnley, Bellaire, Ohio; a son, Junior Darnley, Wheeling, W.Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Darnley Cave, Lonaconing; two sisters, Miss Jennie Darnley, Bellaire, and Mrs. Wilda Dawson, Lonaconing; three brothers, Clarkson Dunn, Garlitz McKenzie, and William McKenzie, all of Lonaconing.

Mrs. C.M. Darr, for many years a resident of Springfield, this state, died at the residence of her son, W.S. Darr of Lonaconing, Wednesday, Sept 8, aged 59 years and 4 months to a day. The remains were taken to Springfield for interment. The deceased was the mother of Messrs W.S. and A.H. Darr, well known in Piedmont.

Mrs. Daisy G. Darr, residing on Route 2, died Wednesday evening in Frederick Memorial Hospital where the had been a patient for several days. She was born in Allegheny County on Nov. 11, 1880, a daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth McKinsey Grant and the widow of Howard Darr. Surviving are the following children: Leo Darr, Adamstown; Mrs. Perry Trittipoe, Frederick; Ralph Darr, Boulder, Colorado; and Mrs. Roger Myers, Route 2; brothers and sisters: Richard Grant and Mrs. Bertha Stottlemyer, both of Cresaptown; Mrs. Edna Stottlemyer, Cumberland; John Grant, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Darr was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Urbana. Friends may call at the M. R. Etcideen Funeral Home at 196 East Church Street, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. Services will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Urbana, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be intoned by the pastor, the Rev. Anthony C.Tomaschke. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Howard Darr, of near Hyattstown, died at the Frederick City Hospital about 4 o'clock this morning, death being due to pneumonia. Mr. Darr had been a patient at the hospital for several days. He was a farmer and was 53 years of age. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Daisy C. Darr, and the following children: Leo H. Darr, Miss Rachel G. Darr and Ralph C. Darr, at home; and Mrs. Mary Trittapoe, this city; three grandchildren; two brothers: Harry Darr, Washington; and Charles Darr, Ballston, Va.; and five sisters, Mrs. Luther Magaha, Buckeystown; Mrs. Ethel Copeland, Cumberland; Miss Florence Darr, Miss Nettie Darr, and Mrs. Sidney Michael, this city. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the late home, followed by interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. W. B. Burdette, Hyattstown, funeral director.

While at work in Washington Mine No. 5, Piedmont and Georges Creek Coal Co., at Franklin, Tuesday morning about ten o'clock, John Darr, aged 18 years, of Westernport, was instantly killed, and Raymond Wilson, aged 25 years, was probably fatally injured by a fall of a roof rock. The men were employed as coal miners and were working together when without warning a large section of the roof came down pinioning them to the bottom. Fellow workmen succeeded after a time in removing the debris and found that Darr had been killed outright and Wilson seriously injured. Wilson's home is near Moorefield, W. Va., while Darr resided with his parents in Westernport. Both are unmarried. It was necessary to use a railroad jack to lift the rock, weighing several tons, which held down the men. The men were working in a room. The accident happened directly in front of State Mine Inspector William Walters, who took charge of the rescue.

Mr. Leo Howard Darr, 79, who resided on Adam Street, in Adamstown, died Tuesday, March 17, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy Myers Darr. Born Nov. 21, 1907, in Cumberland, Mr. Darr was a son of the late Howard and Daisy Grant Darr. Mr. Darr was retired as a salesman with the Lily Pons Water Gardens. He was a member of Fervency Lodge 200, AF&A Masons, Point of Rocks, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1067, Frederick. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, A. Rita Lookingbill of Rockville; one brother, Ralph C. Darr of Boulder, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Trittipoe of Frederick and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Darr was predeceased by one son, Eugene L. Darr. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the Smith, Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, from Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. W. Garner Werntz, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, Adamstown, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. There will be a memorial service on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Masons.

MEYERSDALE, Jan. 12 - Augustus F. Darrah died in the Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md., at 8:45 o'clock Monday morning. He was 51 years old. He underwent an operation last Thursday which was successful but complications set in which caused death. Mr Darrah was one of the best known and highly respected citizens of Meyersdale. For the past 22 years he was operator for the Western Union here. Prior to working for this company, he held the same kind of position with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Brooks Darrah, and the following children: Misses Frances, Rita, Mercedes, and one granddaughter, Josephine, all at home. One daughter, Mrs. Royland D. Este passed away two years ago. His mother, Mrs. Malinda Darrah and the following brothers and sisters also survive, Mrs. Gertrude Winters and Mrs. Rose Smith, San Diego, Cal., Mrs. Mary Loff, Cleveland, Ohio; and Miss Helen Darrah, New York, N.Y.; and John, William, and Robert Darrah of Meyersdale. He was a member of SS Phillip and James Catholic Church, where services were held at 9 o'clock, his pastor Rev. Father Miller being the celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

MEYERSDALE, Feb. 2 - Word was received here last Friday of the serious illness of Charles Darrah of Akron, Ohio. His brother, John Darrah, and sister, Mrs. Catherine Crowe, left at once for his bedside, arriving just a few hours before he passed away at 6:10 Saturday morning following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Darrah was very well-known here where he was born and reared. When quite a young man he took up operating, but later was employed as brakeman on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, where he met with an accident which caused him to lose his right foot. Following this he returned to operating for the same company which he continued to do until the boom came on at Akron when he, with his family, moved to that city where they resided ever since.The body will be brought here for burial, but the time is not known as his son, Edward, is in Los Angeles, CA, and the funeral party will not leave Akron until his arrival. Twenty-five years ago Mr. Darrah was united in marriage to Miss Tillie Liberty of Berlin, who, with three sons and three daughters, survives. The following brothers and sisters also survive: John Darrah, Mrs. Clarence Crowe, and Mrs. Elizabeth Darrah of Meyersdale and Mrs. John Carey of Somerset.

MEYERSDALE, MAY 15 - A message was received here Thursday by Gus Darrah announcing the death of his father John Darrah, Sr. who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Winters at San Pedro, CA where he and his wife had been visiting for several months. Shortly after Mr. Darrah arrived at his daughter's home, he was taken ill and continued to grow weaker. He lived practically all of his life in Meyersdale and was a retired Baltimore and Ohio employee many years as a freight conductor. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Augustus, John, and Robert, all of Meyersdale; Mrs. Carl Winters, San Pedro, Cal; Miss Rose Darrah, a nurse in the United State Hospital at Livermore, California; Mrs. Mary Lobb of Cleveland, Ohio and Miss Helen Darrah employed in New York City. Three sisters also survive as follows: Mrs. C.E. Crowe, Meyersdale; Mrs. John Carey, Somerset; and Miss Lizzie Darrah, Meyersdale. The body will be brought back here for burial.

MEYERSDALE, Nov. 18 - John C. Darrah, 52 years old, died suddenly at 5 o'clock Friday morning. For many years he was telegraph operator on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, working the second trick at SA tower at Sand Patch. He arrived home Thursday night, shortly after 11 o'clock, from his work and became ill. A physician was summoned, but death occurred before he arrived. Mr. Darrah was a native of Meyersdale, a son of the late John Darrah and Mrs. Malinda Garlitz Darrah. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy Shockey Darrah, two brothers and four sisters - William and Robert of Meyersdale, Mrs. Don Laub of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Gertrude Winters of San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. Rosella Smith of Walla Walla, Wash.; and Miss Helen Darrah of New York City. He was an active member of SS Philip and James Church.

Meyersdale, Pa., Feb. 17 — Miss Mary Elizabeth Darrah, 68, died Monday night in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital after an illness of two weeks. A daughter of Augustus and Elizabeth (Bacon) Darrah, she was born in Berkley's Mills on Dec. 11, 1873. She was the last of a family of nine children. Miss Darrah resided many years with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crowe, and in recent years had lived with her niece, Miss Dorothy Crowe, of 300 Meyers avenue. Miss Darrah worked for many years on the Meyersdale Commercial, a weekly newspaper, and later was employed in local stores. She was a member of SS. Philip and James Catholic Church.

William Lowdermilk Darrow, 73, of 822 Columbia Avenue, died yesterday at his home. He had been in ill health the past year. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Charles Samuel and Bessie Ellen (Lowdermilk) Darrow. A retired Celanese Corporation of America employe, he was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13. Surviving are his widow, Janet (Minick) Darrow; a son, William J. Darrow, Battle Creek, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. C. I. Lord, Trenton, J.J.' a brother, James E. Darrow, Frostburg, and four gandchildren[sic]. The body is at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. John F. Sammel, pastor, officiating. Burial wil be in Frostburg Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.

Cumberland - John Dash, 13 years old, employed in the mines of the Davis Coal and Coke Co., at Thomas, was electrocuted by falling on a heavy charged wire used in the mine haulage system. His body was brought to this city today and taken to the home of his uncle, Robert Robertson, Lonaconing, where the Dash family formerly lived.

DAUGHERTY, Mrs. Gladys Sneathen

KEYSER, W.Va. - Mrs. Gladys S. Daugherty, 79, of 630 Carskadon Lane, formerly of Weirton, died Monday, July 23, 1990 in Potomac Valley Hospital. She was born Aug. 23, 1910 in Fort Ashby, daughter of the late Samuel M. and Sallie (Richardson) Sneathen. Mrs. Daugherty was a former teacher in the Mineral County school system. She was a member of the Weirton First United Methodist Church, where she was an honorary member of the administrative church board, a member of the Esther Bible Class, and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Weirton Chapter 147, Order of the Eastern Star; past president of the Rose of Sharon Twig of the Weirton Medical Center; and a member of the Weirton Woman’s Club, the Weirton Golden Age Club, and the American Association of Retired Persons. Her husband, Paul Daugherty, died in 1978. Several nieces and nephews survive, including Mrs. Laura Thomas, with whom Mrs. Daugherty resided. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday in the Fort Ashby Cemetery by the Rev. James E. Shepherd. The Rotruck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MEYERSDALE — Joseph L. Daugherty, 84, died yesterday in Community Hospital where he had been a patient a week. Born at Saltsburg, he was a son of the late William and Sadie (Rumbaugh) Daugherty. A retired employe of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, Mr. Daugherty was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. He also held membership in Zion Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Charles Bowman, Mrs. John Lint and Miss Clara Daugherty, all of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Frank Garlitz, Corriganville; a brother, Thomas Daugherty, New Castle, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services and interment will take place Friday afternoon.

The body is at the residence where services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Victor A. Carlson, pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate and interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Paul Daugherty, 70, of 1210 Courtland Road, Weirton, died Sunday in the Weirton Medical Center. A native of Keyser, he was a son of the late Charles Harvey and Minnie Hampton (Orndorff) Frazier Daugherty. He retired in 1968 as a plant manager for the C&P Telephone Company. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Golden Age Club of Weirton, the First United Methodist Church of Weirton, the administrative board of the church, the Men’s Bible Class, the pastor/parish relations commission, Lodge 171, AF & AM., charter member of the Weirton Rotary Club and the Steubenville Art Association. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gladys L. (Sneathen) Daugherty, a brother, Ward Daugherty, Keyser, and a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Reese, both of Keyser. Friends will be received at the Steel Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton, where services will be conducted tomorrow by Dr. William A. Woods. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Robert Anthony Daugherty, 47, of 329 Fayette street, carpenter contractor, died yesterday at noon of a heart attack, soon after his return from services at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A native of Midland, he was a son of the late Michael (Patrick) and Mary (Caton) Daugherty. A World War veteran, he was a member of St. Patrick's church and of the Holy Name Society. Surviving are, his widow. Mrs Bessie Leona (Klnser) Daugherty, two sons, John, Robert F. Daugherty, and two aunts, Miss Mattie A and Miss Anna A Caton, all of Cumberland

Mr. Thomas Daugherty, Sen., a respected and well known citizen, died at his home at the W.Va. Junction about 6 o'clock Wednesday morning after a short illness. Mr. Daugherty was in Piedmont a few days ago and his death was unexpected and a great shock to his friends. His funeral services were conducted in the Catholic Church Friday.
